Udupi: People oppose Tipu as their ancestors faced violence - BJP spokesperson

Daijiworld Media Network – Udupi (HB)

Udupi, Nov 9: A day ahead of Tipu Jayanthi, State BJP spokesperson Malavika Avinash lashed against the Karnataka government for going ahead with the celebrations, despite the fact that it will hurt sentiments of many and will be a cause for communal disharmony.

Addressing a press meet on Tuesday at District BJP office, Malavika stressed the fact that Tipu had hurt the Kanara Christian community, and people from Kodagu and other parts of Karnataka, particularly Christians are opposing this celebration due to the violence faced by their ancestors under Tipu’s rule. "He was a killer who dealt out injustice. I think there is no need to celebrate his birth anniversary using government funds," she said.

Speaking about the Parivarthana rally by BJP, she said that its main intention is to make people understand the corruption, lies and failures of the state government.

The Yatra which will reach Udupi on November 12 will highlight the achievements of BJP in the state under the leadership of Yeddyurappa in 2008 and PM Narendra Modi at the Centre since 2014.

She also condemned the Kodagu district administration for denying permission to hold the Yatra meetings in Somavarapete and Virajpete in Madikeri. This is a democratic country and people should be given the freedom to express, she said and accused Siddaramaiah government for being anti-democratic.

The Yatra will enter Dakshina Kannada on November 10 and will reach Udupi on November 12. District BJP President Mattaru Ratnakar Hegde said the Yatra will commence from Hejamady, border for Udupi district at around 10.45 am on Sunday, followed by a huge public meeting at Kaup Bus stand around 11.00 am.

On same day, by evening at 3.00 pm a public meeting will be held at Hebri bus stand. Then the Ratha Yathra will arrive to Udupi passing through Hiriadka-Manipal road. An open stage programme at Chittaranjan circle Udupi will be held at 6 pm.

On Monday, November 13 the yatra will move to Kundapur, and a huge public meeting will be held in Nehru Maidan, Kundapur around 11 am. Later, it will be reached Kirimanjeshwar of Byndoor, a meeting will be held in the evening at Sandeepani ground near school.

Then it will move to Uttara Kannada district and then Belagavi.

Sadananda Gowda, Union Minister Ananth Kumar will join in Byndoor programme.

Kuylady Suresh Nayak , Chief Secretary, Yashpal Suvarna, Nayana Ganesh, vice president, Manjunath Kanyady, Katpadi Shankar Poojary and others were present.

When I went to school/college back in the 90’s Tipu Sultan was just another passing reference in our history books. The history books were neither overtly jubilant about him nor were covertly critical about him. There was no question of judging his actions two centuries ago and it was just that -a “history”.
Now, somehow the Congress has made Tipu a great champion of Karnataka state. The concept of Karnataka state simply did not exist in Tipu’s time. He was a ruler of a region where Kannada was spoken. That does not automatically make him a champion of Karnataka. And whatever battles he fought with the British, he fought for his own interest of guarding his empire. Lot of other Indian rulers too have done the same; and the smarter ones compromised with the British to extend their rule much further.
There is nothing really to celebrate Tipu’s actions. That is exactly how the politics of India two centuries ago panned out to be.
On the other side of the spectrum is the bunch of idiots from the BJP who somehow have the policy of opposing every single Muslim ruler of India, be it Shah Jahan or Tipu Sultan.
My message to the BJP is – whether you like it or not, the fact is that a big part of India over the last 1000 years of history was being ruled by the Muslim rulers. And undoubtedly, our culture has been influenced by Islam.
Why is it so hard for the little brains of these BJP idiots to understand that the two cultures and two religions of Hindus and Muslims have co-existed in India for centuries.
All throughout the history of India, most wars were fought by the rulers for their self-interest of guarding their empire or power base. I do not recollect every reading any history book where two rulers have fought on account of religious differences. Whether it was Plassey, Panipat, Shivaji or Tipu – the one common theme among all these battles is that the rulers had to guard their power base.

Who cares whether the Jayanthi or Tithi celebrated of the one who is long dead and gone. But beware of those who spread hatred, discord, and violence through their communal agenda and are destroying our country.

The Bhartiya Jihadi Party (BJP) is far worse than Tipu! Tipu is long dead and buried a few centuries ago on 5 May 1799, but in the 21st century the BJP in their greed for power propagates hate, violence and killing of innocent people to divide a great nation!

Where are our Congress Leaders, Religious Leaders, Civil Leaders why are they not taking about the greatest atrocities committed on an entire community by this butcher Tipu Sultan are they also celebrating Tipu Jayanthi.

When some miscreants did some mischief at some of the churches, they condemned it. But for a person like Tipu who murdered in cold blood tens of thousands of their own families - Men, Woman, Children both young and old they are all quiet. Besides, on Tipu's orders his men bought down tens of churches but not a single word - Unbelievable. There were only two churches that survived, because our Hindu brethren surrounded the church and stopped Tipu's men from demolishing them.

Talk about a few hundred people that died in Gujarat and the whole Muslim community is in anguish, but talk about the mass genocide of thousands of Christians and they call the man who did it all - a "Freedom Fighter". What a Hippocratic world we live in.

Mr. Don, this Italian folowers can't understand, They even don't know when Tippu borned.

Why all of a sudden this Congress remembered Tippu Jayanthi?

Tippu is born just last 3 years back? All these years no one celebrated Tippu Jayanthi??

This is nothing but creating communal differences between the people who live peacefully in this society.

Tippu was tyrant and communal, alright but what about BJP, RSS, SP, BD, SRS, HJV, VHP, ABVP, Cow Vigilantes, Moral Police?????. Both are same Tippu then and BJP and all its satellite organisations now. BJP has no moral right to say anything regarding this. They are just ceasing one wild opportunity as if they love Christians so dearly?!?!?!?...........

Tyrant tippu was interested only in retaining only his so called 'territory'. He was least bothered to protect his people of his territory. His interest was to expand his territory, kill Christian and Hindu families and forcefully propagate Islam everywhere.

But was that a full fledged 'Jayanthi', that was 'celebrated' in this way? . Tippu might have been a brave soldier, but hsi misdeeds exceed and its controverial. Siddu just wanted to garner votes of a certain community and hence appeasing them with this move.
