Mumbai: Kurla tense as Mother Mary statue is vandalised

Mumbai, Feb 19 (PTI) : A statue of Mother Mary was allegedly desecrated by unknown persons in suburban Kurla in the wee hours today, leading to tension in the area.

The grotto of Mother Mary installed on a roadside in Kurla was desecrated at around 4 am, police said. The incident led to tension in the area and police were trying to pacify the angry locals.

They were also trying to obtain CCTV footage of the area. In one of the footages that they have managed to get, three persons were purportedly seen moving on a bike near the site, police said. Efforts were on to nab the culprits, they said.

Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone V, Paramjit Singh said police personnel are on the spot and the situation is under control. Reacting to the incident, social activist Nicholas Almeida said this kind of disturbance happens every now and then during election time. He demanded strict action against the culprits.

its sad to see people trying to disrupt harmony in the name of statue, if u believe god nobody can destroy your faith only idols can be destroyed, even bible says statue and idol worship should be forbidden but we blindly follow what our ancestors did that's idol worship.

Just because of god fearing people who do not take the law into their own hands, it does not mean that people of other faiths/communities should take advantage of that. The men who vandalised the statue of ‘Our Blessed Mother Mary of Vailankanni’ in suburban Kurla in the early morning hours of February 19, 2017 should be punished severely.

Obsession with religion has disturbed the amosphere in the society. People should understandthat HUMANITY is the best rligion. Humnity is the universal concept and it does not discriminate on the basis of religion caste creed colour etc. People should practice humanity first an I am sure there will be no clashes. It is perfectly alright for people to believe in GOD eventhough None of the religion has provided any proof of existenece of GOD. However, it is sheer madness to fight amonst one another in the name of God when no one does not have any idea about the existence of GOD.

Irrespective of the religion, all shrines, statues installed on the roadside or under trees other than inside the compound walls of the place of worship should be withdrawn by the Government. It is giving an opportunity to the vandals to create communal disharmony and is a cause for great concern to the law enforcing authorities. According to Mr. Sharad Pawar "Elections are imminent in Maharastra". Is this an attempt to polarize votes???

Its a cowardice and provoking act.Let us not blame each other unnecessarily so that we may fail the motives of miscreants. Instead let us receive MOTHER MARY INTO OUR HEARTS AND OUR HOMES which are suppose to be abode of her, through rosary and love for her Son Jesus Chrisy and for each other. If we do this i am sure She will be more than happy. She will not be hurt by these miscreants. So let us not be moved by emotions.

Not only communal outfits, currently the so-called sickular organisations who boast about being protectors of minorities also seemed to be totally frustrated. It's not quite easy to predict who does what for the sake of power. It's no use blaming any political party or groups affiliated to these parties.

Common citizens they have just vandalized the statue or may be by mistake. Where is our faith ? Cling to the faith till the end.
He is the one who protect us no need to defend Him or His saints. If we make a big issue out of it then we give more importunity / scope to such people to repeat the same in other areas.
Be cool, forgive and pray for your family. This is the need of the hour.

Dear faithful people, do not react to the cowardly act of devils agents. Our reaction is their motto. By our silence and peace, if we neglect them, they will fail in their evil designs. No force on earth can destroy our faith and our religion. Hardships were there for us faithful from the beginning. That is why so many holy and faithful followers of Christ attained the supreme place of sainthood. In fact, these sufferings and humiliations are blessings for those who trust in Jesus and accept them as His blessings. NO FORCE CAN DESTROY OUR FAITH. Remember what happened to those who directly or indirectly planned and supported church attacks in Mangalore.
