Melvyn Rodrigues chosen for Vimala V Pai Poetry Award

Mangaluru, Sep 19: Acclaimed Konkani poet and Central Sahitya Akademi award recipient MelvYn Rodrigues has won this year's Vimala V Pai Vishwa Konkani Poetry Award for his collection of poems ‘Devi Ninkasi’.

'Kapyallem', Konkani novel written by renowned Goan Konkani writer Sudha Kharangate has been selected for Vimala V Pai best Konkani book award 2016.

Elderly Konkani researcher, author and translator Arvind Bhatikar Goa has been selected for 'Vishwa Konkani Jeevana Siddi' award (Lifetime Achievement Award).

The Vimala V Pai annual awards, instituted by T V Mohandas Pai, are presented by World Konkani Centre, Mangaluru. Each award carries Rs 1 lac in cash, certificate, memento, shawl and fruits.

Devi Ninkasi is the first published collection of poems by Melvyn Rodrigues after he received award in 2010 for his fourth collection of poems `Prikriticho Paas’.

 ‘Devi Ninkasi’ is a collection of 40 poems dealing with social themes. In the poem 'Devi Ninkasi', the poet takes up the role of the 'Pub attack' victims to voice their anguished cry of despair. The collection published by Evershine Publishers Mangaluru in Devnagari and Kannada scripts in 2015 had received high critical acclaim.

The awards will be presented in Mangaluru on November 6 at Vishwa Konkani Kendra. Sponsor of the award, T V Mohandas Pai will be present in the programme.
