Mumbai: Jayanth Kaikini selected for Gurunarayana Literary award

Mumbai, Dec 26: Well known author from Mangaluru, Jayanth Kaikini has been selected for Gurunarayana Literary award for 2015. The award comprises of Rs 25,000 cash, memento and certificate. The decision was taken by the committee led by senior author V G Nayak and Dr Sunitha Shetty.



Jayanth Kaikini hails from Gokarna of Uttar Kannada district. After working in Mumbai as a bio-chemist for 13 years, he began writing as a free lancer after coming to Bengaluru.

Besides being the first Indian author to have won the prestigious 'Kusumagraja' national literary award started by Nasik Open university in 2010, he was awarded a doctorate by Tumkur University in 2011. He has
won the Karnataka Sahitya academy awards four times, Dinaker Besai Poet award, B H Shridhara story award, Katha award from Delhi, best film dialogue award by Karnataka state government, two filmfare awards for best lyrics. A collection of film songs has been published by him.
