Udupi, Sep 4: Catholic Education Board Mangaluru and Catholic Education Society, Udupi organized Teachers’ Day- 2015, on Friday September 4 at St Mary’s English Medium School, Kannarpady here.





























The programme began with convocation by the students of Milagres English Medium School, Kallianpur followed by a welcome dance from the students of St Mary’s English Medium School.

Vinay Kumar Sorake, urban development and district-in-charge minister of Udupi, Karnataka was the chief guest for the programme.

Speaking on the occasion he said, "I thank all the teachers who have made Udupi district stand first in the whole of Karnataka in SSLC and also second place in PUC results as well as second place in CET. One student from the district has cleared the IPS exam and has ranked eighth in Karnataka. According to the survey of an NGO, Udupi district is the first to implement Akshara Dasoha’ and ‘Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan’.

He further said, "Our district is known to provide quality education to children and all the credit goes to the dedication of the teachers. The most important thing is that many Christian organizations have rendered their whole hearted service for many years through their education institutions and have wiped out poverty, blind beliefs, ignorance of people and lead our district towards progress.

"I feel proud to say that I am also an ex-student of a Catholic institution. They have taught us to live a disciplined life." He also congratulated all the felicitated teachers and students.

Fr Gerald Isaac Lobo in his address said, "Education brings us from darkness to light, from ignorance to knowledge, lies to truth. The greatest charity more than anything is providing education. A teacher has a responsibility of shaping the students’ life."

He added that teaching is the holy work of God. A good teacher should find God in the children. He encouraged teachers to love their profession first along with students as their own children. Only then a teacher will get satisfaction in his noble work."

The catholic education board honoured Irin Rodrigues.

Diwakar Shetty, deputy director of public education department was present on the dais as guest.

L J Fernandez, St Mary’s High School, Kundapur, Lona Covelho, assistant teacher St Lawrence Higher Primary School, Attur, prof N M Hegde, Milagres College Kallianpur expressed their opinions.
A cultural program was performed by St Mary English Medium School students.

Udupi MLA Pramod Madhwaraj felicitated the education institution heads for their outstanding performance.

Vinay and Amrutha compered the programme.

Rev Fr Gerald D’Souza welcomed the gathering and Fr Lawrence C D’Souza proposed the vote of thanks.
