Bangalore, Apr 15 : As a consolation to Congress B-form deprived leader Ivan D'Souza, on Sunday, KPCC president Dr Parameshwar appointed Ivan D'Souza as the convener of the election committee for the eight assembly constituencies in Mangalore district.
He will be heading the election committee which would organise and supervise election-related public meetings and other important affairs of assembly elections 2013.
Ivan was a strong contender for the Congress ticket from Mangalore South constituency. He was seeking the ticket for a second time after losing to BJP's Yogish Bhat in 2008 assembly elections.
Originally hailing from Mudarangady, Ivan has been a leader since his student life. He was one of the youngest leaders of Janata Dal to get the assembly ticket from Kaup. At the age 30, he was given ticket from Kaup in 1994 and later in 1998. On both occasions he lost to Congress leader Vasanth V Salian by a small margin.
In 2004 he joined Congress and since then has been actively involved in Congress activities in Mangalore South constituency.
Ivan who is in his late 40s, is expected to support Congress candidates of the district by actively participating as convener of the election committee.
