Moodbidri: Curtains Down on Alva's Nudisiri with Presentation of Awards

Moodbidri, Nov 18: The ninth edition of Alva's Nudisiri cultural fest came to a grand close here on Sunday November 18 with the presentation of Alva's Nudisiri Awards to nine luminaries and an organization.

The awards were presented to Bishop of Mangalore Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, on behalf of the entire Catholic community for the service rendered in the field of education, Girish Kasaravalli (cinema), Sri Sri Dr Panditharadhya Shivacharya Swamiji Sanehalli (Kannada culture), Dr C P Krishna and Dr G Siddalingiah (literature), Vaijayanthi Kashi (dance and silver screen), Padmashree Ramachandra Hegde Chittani (Yakshagana), Dr Vishnunaik (literature), Subhadra Mansoor (theatre) and Loka Shikshana Trust (publications).

Accepting the award, Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D'Souza said that it was an honour to the entire Mangalore diocese to be chosen for the prestigious award.

Sanehalli Swamiji termed the event as a true celebration of Kannada, while Vaijayanthi Kashi said that to be awarded by a forum that recognises art is the highest of all honours.

Poet Nisar Ahmed presided over the programme and delivered the presidential address.

Chittani Ramachandra Hegde said that an artiste's true inspiration are his fans and admirers. "I have received this award due to the love of true admirers of art and the art world," he said.

Dr Erya Laxmi Narayana Alva in his valedictory address lauded Dr Mohan Alva and said that he has extraordinary will power and determination. "His vision and his achievements have shaped Alva's Education Institutions. We tell our children to only study and concentrate on academics, but Alva's College students have involved themselves in theatre, dance and other cultural activities, and still managed to get 30 ranks in University examinations. This is something we should all appreciate and follow."

Alva's Education Trust chairman Dr Mohan Alva welcome the gathering. He informed about Diwali celebration to be held on November 25 and about the next edition of Nudisiri.

Former minister Amarnath Shetty, MLA Abhayachandra Jain, MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik among others were present.
