Ajman: Thumbay Moideen Awarded Honorary Fellowship of Int'l Medical Science Academy

Ajman, Oct 9: Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, member of the Supreme Council, UAE and ruler of Ajman was awarded Honorary Fellowship of IMSA during the Convocation Ceremony held at Ajman Kempinski Hotel. 

In his Presidential remarks, professor Jagadeesan from IMSA said that Sheikh Humaid was the first and only royalty till date in the world to receive this fellowship. “Your Highness, we are grateful to you for accepting this honor and IMSA will remember this gesture for many years to come”, he added.

Thumbay Moideen, founder president, board of governors of Gulf Medical University, Ajman was also conferred with the prestigious honorary fellowship of the Academy during the grand ceremony along with His Highness.

“In recognition of the achievements in the fields of medical education and healthcare services, we are pleased to award Honorary Fellowship of IMSA to Thumbay Moideen. IMSA places on record and recognizes Moideen’s exemplary vision in developing the university into a world class institution in a short span of time. The president and board of trustees of IMSA have unanimously chosen Moideen for the honor”, said Dr Jagadeesan.

Sheikh Humaid presented mementos to professor Ian Anderson and professor Jagadeesan on the eventful occasion. Professor H S Luthra from Mayo Clinic USA, vice president of IMSA, professor Sundip Mukerjee, senior member board of trustees, IMSA (former consultant surgeon to president of India) and Dr R K Thukral, secretary general of IMSA were present on the occasion.

Gulf Medical University was established as the headquarters of the Middle East chapter of International Medical Sciences Academy (IMSA) yesterday during the closing ceremony and convocation of their annual conference IMSACON 2012. 

IMSA is an associate member of Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences - CIOMS, Geneva. 

Thumbay Moideen has been nominated as the patron of the IMSA Middle East Chapter and professor Gita Ashok Raj, provost, GMU as the chairperson of the chapter.


The grand concluding ceremony of IMSACON 2012 was attended by Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman, His Highness Sheikh Ammar Bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman, members of the Royal Family Ajman and officials from Ministry of Health, various Government departments and hospitals. 

 

Professor Ian Anderson, president Royal College of Surgeons, Glasgow UK was the guest of honor.

Gulf Medical University, Ajman hosted IMSACON 2012, an International Conference on Evidence Based Medicine – Scope and Challenges on October 6 and October 7 at its campus in Ajman. The event is an annual conference of the International Medical Sciences Academy (IMSA).

Leading experts from UAE, India, USA, Jordan and Iran addressed on various topics related to medicine, Surgery, women’s health, radiology and diagnostics and medical education.

The two day conference was accredited by Ministry of Health UAE for 11 CME hours. Over 200 international and local delegates attended the conference.

About IMSA


International Medical Sciences Academy was established as a global organization in 1981 registered as a body registered under Societies registration Act XXI of 1861 in India. IMSA is an Associate Member of Council for International Organizations of Medical Sciences - CIOMS, Geneva.

International Medical Sciences Academy is a multispecialty organization which encompasses all disciplines of medicine. It was established in the year 1981 with laudable aims and objectives and is an associate member of CIOMS, Geneva. It is a registered society with its world headquarters at New Delhi. Now it has about 3000 fellows and members world over and a couple of them are Nobel laureates.

It has 28 chapters and conducts its annual convention – IMSACON - globally in different parts of the world. The IMSA is administered by a Board of Trustees drawn from different parts of the world, a Central Executive Committee and a General Body. It offers Fellowships - FIMSA for senior professionals and Memberships - MIMSA for junior professionals, both screened by the Central Credential Committee and board of trustees on the basis of their credentials. It offers honorary fellowships for outstanding professionals and personalities.

Dr K Jagadeesan, honorary overseas adviser, visiting registrar and international co-coordinator, Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons, Glasgow, emeritus professor of Dr M G R University, Chennai and director K J Hospital, Chennai is the present president of the academy. The academy is run by trustees headed by its president.

Today it is one of the prestigious societies in Medical and Biomedical Sciences sustaining both academic and social relevance.

The chapters hold workshops, seminars where senior most medical scientists from various specialties take part and share their knowledge and experiences with the junior medical professionals. The professionals hold rural CMEs and organize programmes to talk to patients and wherever necessary help in treating the rural people in urban hospitals.

    Congratulations to H.H.Sheikh Humaid and Thumbay Moideen on being conferred with prestigious Honorary Fellowship of International Acadamy.It is one more jewel in the crown of Thumbay Moideen.

    Both of these gentlemen achieved a great deal of accomplishment in the field of Medical Education and put Emirate of Ajman in a prominent place in the map of this part of the world. The fellowship is recognition of their achievements in the fields of medical education and healthcare services and it is well deserved by them. Thumbay Moideen’s exemplary vision in developing the university into a world class institution in a short span of time is very much praiseworthy
