Birth Anniversary of Dr Narayan Subbu Rao Hardikar Celebrated with Fervour

Mangalore, May 8: The district unit of Bharath Seva Dal organized a programme to celebrate the 123rd birth anniversary of Dr Narayan Subbu Rao Hardikar here in the city on Monday May 7.

NS Hardikar was born on May 7, 1889 with the ideals of patriotism, freedom and service to the people. In spite his poverty, he did his studies in medicine. He was the president of the Hindustan Association of America.

He participated in all the movements conducted by the Congress and was appointed general secretary of Karnataka Congress Committee. Dr Hardikar published a monthly journal named 'Volunteer' and devoted himself to the cause of the Seva Dal.
Dr Hardikar was elected twice for the Rajya Sabha from 1952 to 1962. Hardikar was awarded the Padma Bhushan award in 1958.

At presently, with the appeal from Sonia Gandhi, Mahendra Joshi, chief coordinator of State Seva dal committee, has directed Bhima Shankar VH to strengthen the organization in the district level.On this note, Bhima Shankar has appealed the party workers and leaders to give their whole-hearted support. Block units and formation of names will be sought, he stated in the press release.

This unit plays an important role in eradicating internal rivalry in the party and convey party message to its members, he said.
Haji HM Ashraf, chief of District Congress Sevadal, Sashidhar Hegde, K Ashraf, Sadanand, Wilfred, Vasudev Nayak and others were present on the occasion.
