Mangalore, Jan 2: Progressive thinker and scholar, Prof G K Goinda Rao, called upon the people to fortify their will power and make up their minds to stoutly reject every superstition including Made Made Snana practice that is in vogue at Subrahmanya. He urged them to think with scientific temperament about each action thoroughly to examine wither they suit the civilized world, and then take a final decision with firm determination.

He was speaking at a programme of interaction on ‘Made Made Snana – beliefs, observation, and controversies’ organized at the university college here on Sunday January 1 by DYFI, Dalit Sangharsh Samiti and Sahamata Vedike.

He accused Swamijis, religious heads and Mutts of trying to hold their followers together in a bond in the name of faith and tradition. “The people should oppose the practice of Made Snana in which devotees roll over the left over food after community feast. Unless they take steps to preserve their self-respect and imbibe scientific thinking, it is impossible to achieve progress of human beings,” he stressed.

Convener of Mangalore University Kanakadasa Study Chair, Dr Shivaram Shetty, felt that people can be made to shun Made Made Snana practice, only if they are educated about the roots of their culture.  State president of Backward Classes Awareness Forum, K S Shivaram, felt that Made Snana practice symbolizes slavery. He said that his organization will carry on its fight till the government banishes this practice.  He said that minister, Dr V S Acharya, who supports superstitions, has no moral right to continue in office.

Balakrishna Y, speaking on the occasion, asked people who are opposed to the above practice, to file petitions at the programme of Karnataka State Human Rights Commission chairman, Justice S R Nayak, being held at the university college premises on January 18.

Dakshina Kannada district committee president of Dalit Sangharsh Samiti, L Chandu, presided. Organizing convener, Anand, moved resolution. DYFI district secretary, Dayananda Shetty, welcomed. Sahamata Vedike convener, Dr Vasudeva Belle, delivered introductory address.
