Mangalore, Dec 22: Vincent Prakash Carlo, who made his hometown proud by bagging the gold at the Commonwealth Unequipped Bench-press Championship-2011 held in London from December 15 to December 18, was accorded a warm welcome at the central railway station on Thursday December 22 morning.

On Wednesday December 21, Suprita and Akshatha, students of Ujire and Moodbidri who also bagged gold medals in power-lifting competition were given a grand welcome at the Mangalore Airport.

Mayor Praveen, coastal development authority chairman B Nagaraj Shetty, Supritha’s mother Shaila, Akshatha’s (Karkala) father Bhoja Poojary and mother Prema, Udupi district body building association president Sudarshan and students in large numbers were present to welcome Suprita and Akshata.
 
Members of Balanjaneya Gym and Silva’s Multi Gym, Kulashekar, former Mr World Raymond D’Souza, KPCC secretary Ivan D’Souza, Alwyn D’Silva, coach Sathish Kudroli, Prashanth Kumar, deputy superintendent of excise department among others welcomed Vincent.

Vincent Carlo from Nantoor here works in the excise department of Mangalore.

Vincent arrived by the Bangalore-Mangalore train at 8.15 am.
 
Carlo was garlanded by the people gathered and crackers were burst to celebrate the remarkable achievement.
 
Addressing the gathering Carlo said that the weather in London was cold, with a temperature of 6 degree, which made it difficult for them to perform. "However, all ended well, and winning the medal was a joyous moment," he said, and thanked all his supporters for felicitating him on his arrival.
 
He was then taken out in an open jeep procession from the railway station to Balanjaneya Gym (Car Street) and from there to Silva’s Multi Gym, Kulshekar amidst the beating of bands.

    Vincent Carlo, Congratulations on winning the Gold Medal.
    On the other note, I was surprised to see the Gold Medal winner travel by train from Bangalore to Mangalore. What a pity ???? They deserve more recognition than our politicians who travel by air with common man's money. This is democracy my yaar ...
