Sleep Like a Baby in KSRTC’s Airavat Mercedes Buses

From Our Special Correspondent
Daijiworld Media Network

Bangalore, Sept 29: Sleep like a baby experience is what the Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) is now offering with the addition of two more Airavat Club Class Mercedes Benz buses and also additions to Karnataka Vaibhav fleet on Thursday.

Karnataka’s Transport and Home Minister R Ashok, who launched the buses from Vidhana Soudha, said the renowned Mercedes Benz multi-axle buses would start operating between Bangalore and Hyderabad (Rs. 900), Bangalore and Vijayawada (Rs. 950) and Bangalore and Ernakulum (Rs. 850) from October 1.

Six Mercedes Benz buses would operate between Bangalore and Hyderabad, Vijayawada, Ernakulum to start with.

The KSRTC plans to buy a total of 40 buses would be purchased by year end and provide the best in luxury and comfort to its customers, the minister said.

KSRTC has plans introduce Mercedes Benz buses to Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore, Tirupati, Nellore, Panaji, Secunderabad, and Mumbai routes.

Drivers would be given special training at Mercedes Benz plant at Pune.
However, for the benefit of common people, KSRTC introduced Karnataka Vaibhav buses for the benefit of common passengers and buses, which would start operations from next month.

Initially, the buses would operate from Bangalore to Tirupati (Rs. 190 day service), Tirupati to Bangalore (Rs. 210 night service), Bangalore to Vellore (Rs. 160) and Vellore to Bangalore (Rs. 180 night service), Bangalore to Kanchipuram (Rs. 180 day service) and Kanchipuram to Bangalore (Rs. 200 night service),

Buses would also ply on the pilgrim routes of Bangalore to Dharmasthala (Rs. 250 day service) and Dharmasthala to Bangalore (Rs. 270 night service), Bangalore to Kukke Subramanya (Rs. 250 day service) and Kukke Subramanya to Bangalore (Rs. 270).

Fourteen buses would operate from Bangalore to various cities from October 1 and the fleet strength of these special buses would be increased to 50 by December, the minister added.

I have experienced atleast the 4 majors highways from Bangalore i.e. Mysore, Mangalore, Chennai and Mumbai and i have to say all the 4 highways (national or state) are really well maintained and in good condition. The BLR MUM volvo does approx 1000 kms in 17 hrs which none of the private operators or even for that matter train can do.

Dear Mr. Shiva Hegde Manipal, I hope thease buses are not the imported mercedes benz buses but the buses rolling out from TATA-MARCOPOLO (Joint venture of TATA & Mercedez Benz) from Karnataka production unit. These buses are high profile luxurious & are equvalent ot the high profile VOLVO buses running in our roads to far destinations. Im sure these buses will very well run in our road as these are manufactured & tested in production units to suit Indian road conditions. N hope so far BIRLA has not started manufacturing buses..

Hope the authorities will review their plans and include Mangalore as one of the destinations for the luxury travel. After all it is Karnataka State venture and places in Karnataka should receive some priority and not step-motherly treatment.

Yes. I agree that we have to praise the BJP govt for introducing such international standard buses like volvo, benz etc. However, govt should give priority to provide basic transport facilities to various rural areas in many backward districts of the state. I also agree that there should be good toilet facilities along the line of travel of these luxury buses. (I really cant imagine getting down from a benz bus to only walk into a dirty smelly place to piss and come back to the luxury of benz). However about dirty roads, please note that these luxury buses mainly run on National Highways which is the responsibility of Central Govt. So to give the confortable travel experience to the people, both state & central govts have to do their respective jobs properly. Therefore pl stop blaming each other parties and pressurise both to do their parts.

It great to see our Goverment improving and providing such luxurious buses. Unfortunate that they do nothing on toilet facilities. KSRTC buses stop at their bus stand where its difficult to find a clean toilet or sometimes even a toilet that is kept open in the nights. No point having luxurious buses without being able to provide some basic services. I recent experience has been awful. I hope the govt thinks on improving those services.

One thing isnot understandable here...in Blore this Minister talks big things but why he and his team can not think of looking at Mangalore city buses situations....
mafias of private bus owners, putting common mans life in danger, low class behaviour of Drivers, conductors and 3-4 TCs per buses....noise pollutions through radios, music cassette players, blowing whistles like school children by conductors and TCs....it is not only looks like if we are in sudan or african countries some time......
