Melvyn Rodrigues

From the editor’s desk :-

Dear Music lovers,

A hearty welcome to every one of you to Do..Re..Me..Fa.., your beloved music column.  After a short break, I am back here again to play before you yet another sweet music chord.  Although it is my strong determination to present to you one pleasing music chord every month, unfortunately nowadays I am failing in my mission.  The reason behind is not that I am too busy or lazy, but the reality is in spite of my die-hard attempts, profiles of great music stars do not reach my hands on time.   At this juncture, my earnest  request  to you is to support this music column by assisting me to obtain profiles of music greats at the earliest!

Today, dear friends, we have a reason to celebrate!  Now you must be thinking that Gerry is fully engrossed in Valentine’s Day or Carnival Celebrations!  No…no .. dear ones! Not at all!  Truly, I am rejoicing today because of The Konkani Music, which is very close to my heart.  Of late, that has seen a new dimension and has succeeded in reaching to new greater heights!  Without any hesitation, I am proud to herald that the recently released music album “DINI….DINI…” has created colossal waves in the Music ocean!  Above all, this unique album has proved that Konkani Music has a bright future and one day undoubtedly, it will enjoy that great honour  which other  world musics enjoy!

It is my unique privilege and honour today, to present to you a magnificent star, the producer of “DINI…DINI…” music album, a celebrated Konkani writer, the back-bone of world’s renowned ‘Daiji Dubai’ – a Konkani Writers’ Forum and one of the greatest poets Konkani has ever seen, who is also known as the “creator of poets.”  This great personality whom I am referring to is none other than Kavi Baab Melvyn Rodrigues!

I am sure you will really enjoy listening to his unique chord of this melodious music column.  See you soon with yet another sweet chord of music!  Until then bye!

Yours in Do..Re..Me..Fa..,

Gerry D’Mello, Bendur

A  POET  PAR – EXCELLANCE
THE CREATOR OF “DINI-DINI” MUSIC ALBUM
“THE  KONKANN  KAVI” – BAAB MELVYN  RODRIGUES

Writers and poets are the life-line of a language.  They keep it alive, useful and shining. Their works pass on to generations and they themselves acquire a personality and aura which is larger than their life.  The life, works, dream and vision of Baab Melvyn Rodrigues, the remarkable, contemporaneous, Konkani poet who is also known as the ‘Creator of Konkanni Poets’ seem to suggest that he is a great rising star in the Konkanni literary skies!

Early Life:-

Melvyn Rodrigues was born at Derebail, Mangalore, on 8th July 1962.  His parents were (late) Charles and (late) Theresa Rodrigues.  Theirs was a loving family of 4 children, 2 girls and 2 boys, Melvyn being one of them.  Melvyn had his Primary education at Holy Family Higher Primary School, Derebail, and his High School studies in Padua High School, Mangalore. After completing his Pre-University studies at St.Aloysius College, he acquired his B.B.M. degree at S.D.M.College, Mangalore, and M.A. (Sociology) degree from Mysore University.  While active in his literary works, he now resides and works in Dubai.  His wife is Averyl and they have a son named Gavin.  Back home, their residence in Mangalore is at Kulshekar which is aptly named as “Kavita!”

Melvyn – the poet:-

Religiously inclined, Melvyn as a boy used to compose Konkanni hymns.  Inspired by his “Guru”, the late Cha. Fra. De Costa
