Indo-Pak Semi-final: Media Hype or 'War'?

Mar 29, 2011

For the past one week the whole nation has been talking of nothing but the imminent India-Pakistan World Cup semi-final clash at Mohali, so much so that it has been termed as a 'war' by the media. Do you think media hype is necessary because of commercial interest? Wouldn't it be just another game, and not an 'epic battle' without the hype? At the same time, is it necessary to hype the match in an already charged atmosphere?

Has the media gone overboard in hyping the Indo-Pak World Cup Semi-final?

Men in Blue must win this match and take the revenge for Mumbai attacks (Peaceful Revenge), porkistan should be humiliated

The media hype certainly cannot be justified. Any game should be played without any pressure, in a competitive spirit of the game. With all my love and loyalty to India, I still would say let the best team win. Likening it to a war is most unbecomming of human beings...Why not feel happy that an Asian team is winning the trophy?
Martis Vikram, SA/ Udupi
Indo-Pak World Cup semi-final clash as the 'mother of all matches' and the 'final before the final', that it is just a cricket match after all......."Both teams cannot win and somebody has to lose, but whichever team loses should lose gracefully...
Stanley, Kuwait
Do not mix politics in games.Let them play with true spirit. Winning and loosing is part of the game. Goodluck INCREDIBLE INDIA.

Its true that we all are excited for the big day, both the teams are well competent to win but its going to be a tough match and all cricket lovers know that. But the media is all set to take undue advantage of this occasional event by hyping it rather than playing a neutral role by informing the public on these events it looks like its only interested in commercializing this event for the benefit of the few....

This match deserves much more hype. After all its long time rivals India and pakistan. This match seems no less than a war. Even the name pakistan boils the blood of almost every Indian. And however most Indians may not even bother much if India lose the finals but would definitely want India to win tomorrow.
Roshan, moodbidri
Both are cricket crazy nations more than any other countries, we beat them on the previous 4 encounters and surely this time also..that's it

NO.News transmogrification gives bread and butter to the media, justice to the victims and sleepless nights to the accused. Those who have extra time to kill do roam the websites or printed matters but those who find 24 hours too short to squeeze-in their schedule, curse the very watch and limit to skimmed headlines. There you go media ! The ball is always in your court seldom in ours. You rock on !

Though the media has not hyped it much, the world cup is come to a very crucial match. This day is awaited by many indians very eagerly. This might be because of the ties between the two nations. But whatever it may be one would never want to miss this opportunity to watch this "war" on the feilds.
sriprabha, mangalore
