Kasargod: ‘Uttaradesham’ Malayalam Daily Editor, K M Ahmad, No More

Kasargod, Dec 17: K M Ahmad (64), a veteran Malayalam journalist, and editor of Uttaradesham daily, breathed his last on the evening of Thursday December 16.

Ahmad, who was ill of late, was admitted into a private hospital in Mangalore after he complained of breathing problems on Wednesday. Initially he was treated in a private hospital in Kasargod before being shifted to Mangalore.

Ahmad, who was in the forefront of literary movement and issues relating to humanitarian causes, had led the anti-endosulfan movement from the forefront. He was equally active in religious, cultural and social programmes. He had recently retired after serving as the Kasargod district bureau head of ‘Matrubhoomi’, in which his column, ‘Chandragiri Kareyil’, had been immensely popular. He had played an important role in the setting up of Press Club here, and had worked for several years as the president of the district committee of Kerala Union of Working Journalists.

He is survived by wife, Suhara, son, Mujeeb Ahmad (director, Uttaradesham), and daughter, Shamima.

The district committee of Kerala Union of Working Journalists will be convening a public condolence meeting at the Press Club hall here at 3 pm today.

Thousands of people paid their last respect to the departed journalist on Thursday night at Press Club. Former union minister, O Rajagopal, MP, P Karunakaran, district collector, Anand Singh, various political leaders, office bearers of organizations and others were among those who visited the venue. His body was later taken to his residence in Anangoor, where his funeral is scheduled to take place on Friday December 17.
