Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa will inaugurate the national level cultural fest, Alva’s Virasat – 2010 on January 6, 2010 said Dr M Mohan Alva, chairman of Alva’s Education Foundation on Tuesday December 29. 
 


Speaking to media persons at press club in the city, Dr Alva said that renowned Carnatic music genius and recipient of Padmashri award Dr M Balamuralikrishna will be awarded Alva’s Virasat National Award on the day one of five-day cultural festival to be held at Shobhavana in Mijar near Moodbidri. This year too the national level cultural festival focusing on traditional Indian music and dance variety will witness participation of popular musicians and dancers, said Dr Alva adding that seating arrangements for over 15,000 people will be made at the attractively designed pendal. Parking space will be provided for over 2,000 vehicles.
 
Dharmastala dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade will preside over the inaugural function. Dr N Vinaya Hedge, Vice-chancellor of Nitte University, Dr B R Shetty, NRI entrepreneur, J M Garg, chairman of Corporation Bank, K Balachandra Rao, deputy general manager of Canara Bank, K Abhayachandra Jain, MLA, Moodbidri and former minister K Amaranath Shetty will be present, he informed. 
 
Programme Details
 
On Wednesday January 6 from 7.30 pm to 10.00 pm, Pandit Tarun Bhattacharya from Kolkata will present Santoor concert accompanied by Pandit Abhijith Banerjee on tabla and Ustad Taufique Qureshi on drums.
 
On Thursday January 7 from 6.00 pm to 8.30 pm, Kalaimamani Padmashri, Dr Kadri Gopalnath on Saxophone and Suramani Praveen Godkhindi on flute will perform a Jugalbandi. Thereafter, Sharmila Biswas and her team will perform the Odissi dance from 8.40 pm to 10.00 pm.
 
On Friday January 8 from 6.00 pm to 8.30 pm, Suramani Praveen Godkhindi on flute, Pandit Purbuyan Chatterjee on sitar, Satyajit Talwalker on tabla, Arun Kumar on drums, Keith Peters on bass guitar and Joheb Hussain on keyboard will present a special Jugalbandi. There will be a dance variety programme by Prathima of Nrutyagrama, Bangalore from 8.40 pm to 10.00 pm.
 
On Saturday January 9 from 6.00 pm to 10.00 pm, musical orchestra by singers of Kannada film industry, L N Shastri, Ajay Warrior, Ganesh, Prashanth Rai, Joy Peter, Anuradha, Divya Raghavan and Shamitha Malnad will be held.
 
On January 10 from 6.00 pm to 9.30 pm, nearly 60 artistes, who participated in India’s Got Talent competition in Sony TV will perform a dance variety. Mahishashura Mardini, dance programme by Puruliya dance team of Bihar will be presented from 9.30 pm to 10.30 pm. 
 
Prior to Virasat, on Sunday January 3, ab artists’ camp, Alva's Varna Jagrithi will be held at Shobhavana in Mijar, wherein over 700 artists from state will create art on 750 metre single canvas. On the same date there will be an exhibition of sculptures created by north Indian tribal community of the country, said Dr Alva.

The Alva’s Virasat has been organized since 14 years with the theme that education institution too should focus on the cultural activities along with academics, he said.
