Al-Ain, Nov 27: The Kannada Sangh of Al-Ain and Al-Buraimi organized Kannada Rajyotsav and Diwali celebrations at Nadi Al-Ain Makam indoor stadium recently.

Entrepreneur B G Krishnamurti, after inaugurating the programme, spoke of his childhood memories of Rajyotsav and Diwali celebrations to the gathering.

Basavaraj, a humorist, enthralled the audience for nearly an hour.

B G Krishnamurti released the first copy of ‘Chandana’, an annual bulletin of Kannada Sangh, edited by Dr Swamy, by presenting it to veteran member Murali.

Folk dance, children’s lamp dance, and ‘Huli Vesha’ were a major attraction on the occasion.

Fancy dress and ‘Rangoli’ competitions were conducted by Rekha Bhat and Marriot Lobo.  Speech competitions were conducted by Harish and Manu.

Diwali celebrations began with group singing led by Dr Uma. The children enjoyed busting fire crackers.

Ummer Farouq and John D’Mello conducted the quiz and personality competitions.

Dr Kumar welcomed the gathering. Rekha Bhat introduced the guests.

One of the extraordinary features of Daijiworld web site is the privilege of reading so many "tid-bits" from a distance relating to the community, that you normally do not read elsewhere. Its amazing to learn so much of cultural diversity even from the remote areas such as the Sheikhdom of Al Ain in the Emirates where the Kannadigas thrive with their own communal festivals added with display of glamorous national costumes, colorful sarees with matching jewellery and much more. Whether it is Newzealand or Newfoundland whether it is Alaska or Nebraska, the Indians from the East are everywhere with their patriotic displays of talents and traditional performance. Whether we are from Kolkota or Hampankatta, we can easily identify ourselves who we are and what we are from our names, our accents and even from our dietary tastes. India and the Indians have an unique pride to cherish wherever we go and whatever we do. Our "Divalis", our "Onams" and our "Montifest" - these are all gifts of traditions and customs that go hand in hand with our heritage and our belongings. God bless the Kannadigas and God bless the Indians. Dhanyawaadh.
