Mangalore, Nov 22:  The 75th Melwin Peris Musical Nite turned out to be a huge success despite the initial hiccups due to  unexpected  Rains, held at St Aloysius College grounds in Mangalore, on Nov 22, 2009.

When the show, as promised was  about to commence to a  colorful start at 6.00pm, the sudden downpour proved to be spoilsport.  It rained continuously for 20 minutes non stop, giving scary moments to the organizers as well as  the 2500  crowd gathered at the venue.  It took a nother half an hour to re-start the programme as the musicians had to reset their instruments and equipment which were dismantled to protect from the lashing rain.

With the arrival of His Lordship  Aloysius D’Souza - Bishop of Mangalore at 7:00 pm  gave the green signal to   commence the show once again, with dynamic compere beyond compare the veteran Leslie Rego, handling the proceedings professionally.  He managed to handle the stage  programme with his unique style which got over within 30 minutes to the appreciation of the audience.

The event was presided over by Bishop Aloysius, with  Leo Rodrigues, NRI Entrepreneur from Abu Dhabi, Walter Nandalike  Editor-in-chief of daijiworld.com, Pascal Pinto from Kuwait, Clement Lobo from Mumbai, being guests of honuor.. Angelore Parish priest Fr Stany Lobo, Assistant Parish priest Fr Gration Alvares, vice president Angelore parish Jossy Dsouza, and Daya Victor Lobo convener of the event were present on the dais, along with Melwin and his wife Neeta Peris accompanying  them.

The Stage program began with the release of Melvin's 25th Konkani music album 'Dabazo' by Leo Rodrigues, followed by 'Suvalo'  a book  by Melwin Peris’ compilation of  lyrics of his last 25 Konkani Albums.  Walter Nandalike released the book.

Denis Peris  the veteran singer, Melvin’s elder brother, his mentor and his great supporter was honoured by Bishop Aloysius  in a brief honouring  ceremony.  Walter Nandalike presented a Memento on behalf of Melvin and the organizers.  Along with Denis, Melvin’s another brother Albert Peris who is also responsible for his success story was honoured by the Bishop and Pascal Pinto presented the Memento.

Mangalore's well known comedian, compere, a poet and Konkani activist Jerry Rasquinha was also honoured by Bishop for his
contribution to the success of Melvin Nites being the compere, comedian and for his other valuable support. Clement Lobo presented  memento to Jerry Rasquinha.

Speaking on behalf of guests, Leo Rodrigues recalled his association with Melvin, and lauded his contribution to  Konkani music through these years.

'Kannoon Daiz' a book  containing important laws for Christians, written by Stany D'Costa was released by Bishop  on this occasion.

Speaking during the occasion Fr Stany Lobo, parish priest of Anjelore, admired Melvin's immense contribution to the parish and the to the entire community as a  whole.

The  Peris couple – Melvin and Neeta -  were honored by Bishop on the occasion of  Melvin’s glorious  Platinum Jubilee Nite.

Emotional Melvin said that he was grateful to the almighty, his family, friends, and entire community for the support in his long journey in the Konkani music field and  he vowed to continue his mission for the cause of Konkani.

In his brief address Bishop Aloysius reminded how Melvin came to the stage first time in Don Bosco hall for the singing completion as a 7 year old singer in 1967  bagged the prize too, as he  was trained by his veteran  singer brother Denis Peris.  After that he never stopped his musical journey, and today he is very proud  and satisfied artiste, as not many singers &  composers can complete 75 musical Nites of their own. He further  acknowledged Melvin’s contribution to the church liturgy being a follower of Christ and he has dedicated his service in his life time in Anjelore Church as their choir master. He wished every success to Melvin in his future mission.

Daya Victor Lobo proposed the vote of thanks.

Soon after the felicitation ceremony the grand musical nite started with a bang with a song by Melvin Peris. Roshan  D'Souza Anjelore directed the music.  The entire programme was meticulously planned and executed with the choicest of songs well balanced  and sung by most of the singers associated with Melvin throughout his journey.  All the numbers rendered were instant hits.

Melvin Peris was accompanied by Denis Peris, Joseph Pinto, Albert Peris, Rony D'Cunha from Kuwait, Anita Samson, Rony  Crasta, Zeena Periera, Maxim Pereira, Babitha Pinto, Munita Veigas, Carol, Lavita Lobo, Ivy, Amembal Moras, Edith,  Sangeetha, Michael, Johnson Crasta, and others who rendered scintillating songs in this  memorable 75th musical nite.

Jerry - Duje (Joseph Pinto) duo kept the audience on their toes with the rib tickling  innovative new comedies. Albert Peris also
supported in their  acting.  Naach Sobhan, a professional dance troupe presented dance numbers during the songs.

The program concluded at 10.00pm, an hour late due to rain with the crowd glued  to their seats till the end .  Due credit must go to  Leslie Rego for handling the show  in a professional manner  despite  tense moments  during and after  unxpected rain.  He handled the  situation in a outstanding manner bearing in mind the  tight schedule ahead and managed to maintain the  tempo  throughout the show and proved once again he being the  best compere in the Konkani contemporary world.

Melvin Peris, though initially faced some tensed moments due to Rain God's threat, later relaxed and performed to his best.  He was very thankful for the large number of sponsors from India and abroad and Anjelore parish priest ,  parishioners, his fans all around the world and all those who guided him to reach to this great level.

Proceedings from this event has as already  announced earlier by Melvin peris will be donated to education fund of Anjelore Church.

Daijiworld.com was proud media partner for this mega event.

The success of this event and the brilliant performance by the artistes will be remembered by those attended  in many years to come.

It is a wonderful work done by Mr. Stanley R.D' Costa., that too composing 20 Laws in one book and especially the rights of the citizens from child to old aged, from constitution to RTI. Very informative. I happen to have a glance over the book during my visit to Mangalore. Thousands of konkani speaking people may benefit out of this book. So all minorities should encourage writers like Mr. D'Costa by buying a copy of the book so that many more books will come to light by many more writers like Mr. D'Costa. Congratulations and wish you all the best

During the present hatred climate amongst the religions the time is ripe to educate minorities in their own language. The Step taken by Mr. Stanley D'Costa is a very courageous and he might have spent lot of time to edit the Book of 'Kannon Daiz'. May god almighty help him abundantly in his future work too.

Melwyn and Neeta have contributed a great deal for the welfare and progress of the Konkany society in Mangalore along with Wilfy and Meena Rebimbos as well as Eric Joyce Ozario. All the above faces are very dear to us and we always remember them from a distrance in our prayers. All these Konkany stalwarts have united many other talents in and around Mangalore. In their own small and quiet way they have helped so many needy people, and we are fully conscious of their talents and abilities in our vibrant community. May God bless each and everyone of them, and may our community move forward with progress day after day.

Congratulations Melwyn. As a family friend, I feel particularly proud. The real credit should go to Denis, the elder brother, who nurtured the singing talent in the family and struggled hard when there were not many takers or supporters for Konkani singing or even Western music. I am, of course, a personal friend of Albert. But the real singing talent, songwriter and music composer in the Peris family is undoubtedly Melwyn, who deserves laurels and kudos. I was surprised not to see Mable among the singers or on the dias. Was she unable to come from Shimoga due to personal or family problems? The singing Peris family is incomplete without the presence of Mable. All the best Melwyn. Keep up the good work and climb higher and further peaks. Also, special cheers for Albert!
