Panaji, Nov 19: National Translation Mission (NTM), CIIL, Mysore, in collaboration with the Directorate of Official Language Cell, government of Goa, will hold ‘Translation Festival - Goa 2009’ in Konkani and Gujarati languages from November 22 to 29. Fr Agnel Degree College will host this mega event at Pilar Seminary Complex, Pilar Hill.

The purpose of this event is to translate knowledge texts in two subjects, i.e., history and social sciences. The titles of the texts are ‘Pre-history: People’s History of India’ by Irfan Habib, and ‘Social Change in Modern India’, by M N Srinivas.

This event would consist of a one-day orientation programme for the translators, and a seven-day workshop for the above mentioned languages. The purpose of the event is to come out with language and discipline-specific style sheets and content translation of the select knowledge texts in the specified languages. Around sixty translators will take part in this mega event.

An orientation programme for the translators is being conducted to impart specific directions for translating knowledge texts, where Dr P P Giridhar (head, NTM), Dr Nirupama Rastogi (dean, School of Romance Studies, EFL University, Hyderabad), and Dr Mitra Mukherjee Parikh (SNDT Women’s University, Mumbai), will deliver lecturers. Dr P P Giridhar and Fr Fredrick Rodricks (principal, Fr Agnel College -Pilar), will be the coordinator and convener of the festival respectively.

Those who are interested to attend this event can directly contact the convener and register themselves for this festival, a release issued by Seby Fernandes, academic consultant – Konkani language, said.
