Mangalore, Nov 10: The city and almost all the places in the twin-districts of Dakshina Kannada and Udupi received good rainfall coupled with wind, lightning and thunder since the afternoon of Monday November 9. The rains, which gained intensity between 3 pm and 5 pm, turned into drizzle thereafter.

Both the districts received good rains for about two hours on Monday evening.  Power supply was disrupted at most places, because of the rains. Both the districts experienced cloudy weather since Monday morning, and after 4 pm, vehicles had to move with their headlights on, as darkness dawned on both the districts much earlier.  Kasargod district too got rains coupled with thunder and lightning.

Some places of Bantwal, Karkala and Sullia taluks received heavy rains. Artificial flood was created in Vittal town, as rain mixed with red soil flowed through the city roads because of the construction activities going on in higher altitudes. The highway repair work that was in progress, was hampered due to the rain. As water got accumulated in the potholes and craters, vehicles moved slowly and cautiously.

The meteorological department has warned the fishermen not to venture into the sea for a day, as wind is expected to blow at speeds of 45 to 55 kms per hour. The department said that the coast may receive heavy rains with speeding winds because of the fact that Lakshadweep has experienced a fall in the atmospheric pressure. Two trains starting from the city towards Kerala coast, i.e., Maveli Express and Malbar Express ran with a delay of about 45 minutes each. The police control room here reportedly suffered damages to its electrical equipments because of lightning.
