Mangalore: Simple Traditional Celebrations in Dist Mark Kannada Rajyotsava

Mangalore, Nov 1: Delivering his Rajyotsava message, district in-charge minister Krishna J Palemar said that life of a region on the whole represents a language and not restricted to conversation or literary activities carried out in the language.
He was speaking at the Nehru Maidan here after hoisting Kannada flag during Kannada Rajyotsava celebration on Sunday November 1. Palemar said Kannada language has the capacity of bonding lives with the state’s culture. The language has reached world level with discovery of Kannada software, he said and added that the education quality in Kannada medium needs to improve.
Informing about the flood relief works, minister said that a total of 19 people lost their lives to the natural calamities in the district and thereby Rs 10 crore has been released by the state towards compensation as well as reconstruction of damaged public properties. Palemar said that the flood that affected north Karnataka region has come as a misfortune when the state was on its way towards development.
Speaking of the various projects for the development of district in general and city in particular, minister said that as part of Mangalore city infrastructure development and beautification, it has been planned to widen and concrete, 25 out of which are almost 90 per cent complete. Mangalore Master Plan 2021 too has been approved by state under which Hampankatta commercial building will be developed with Rs 49 crore, whereas tenders have been invited to take up construction works of Urwa market building. Tender for construction of commercial complex in Derebail, a Rs 3-crore-project, too has been invited, he said.
Palemar said that Western Ghats will see further development with 2.06 crore to sustain environmental balance in the district. Further, Rs 998 lac has been granted for the development of scheduled castes out of which Rs 284 lac has already been spent. Moreover, 40-student-capacity, Moraji Desai Science Pre-university College for minority has been granted by the government.
Traditional Rajyotsava parade as always to mark the celebration was held. In the wake of recent floods in the state, the celebration was low key with entertainment programme being restricted to patriotic songs and dances by children of various schools in the city.
Zilla panchayat president Santhosh Kumar Bhandary, mayor Shankar Bhat, Mangalore South MLA N Yogish Bhat, Mangalore MLA U T Khader, deputy commissioner V Ponnuraj and superintendent of police Dr Subrahmanyeswara Rao among others were present.
