Bangalore: Bikers on Vandalism Spree - Cars, autorickshaws Damaged

Bnagalore, Nov 1 (DHNS):  The City police have been stumped by a mysterious gang of motorcyclists, who in the past 24 hours have wreaked havoc on the City, destroying shops, expensive vehicles and creating panic. 

Armed with hockey sticks, water pipes and cricket bats, the gang of 9 to 11 members late on Friday night struck at Yeshwanthpur where they badly damaged cars, autorickshaws and other vehicles.  Hours later, a similar incident was reported from Kumara Swamy Layout and Subramanyapura police limits.

The situation turned tense on Saturday evening after a host of commercial establishments in Rajagopal Nagar were targeted. Around nine people, who came on three bikes, wreaked havoc on Chowdeshwarinagar Main Road. They asked owners of  some commercial establishments to down shutters. They barged into a CD shop, a photo studio, a provision store, a dobhi shop and a few other shops as the owners refused to close down.

They later targeted the Kannada Sene office. The accused, aged between 18 and 25 were conversing in Kannada, sources said.

“The gang were shouting slogans, besides ordering the residents to vacate the area,” said Kumar, a resident of Yeshwanthpur. The panic-stricken residents came to the streets and joined the cops in collecting the whereabouts of the gang.

The miscreants also damaged six cars and three autorickshaws at Sarabandepalya in Pragathipura within the K S Layout police station limits.

A gang of around five people were involved in the act. They fled the scene when people came out of their houses, said sources. A similar incident was reported at Beereshwaranagar in the Chunchaghatta area. The accused targeted five vehicles.

At Yeshwanthpur, more than three vehicles were attacked on Triveni Road by miscreants who came on a bike brandishing lethal weapons and sticks. Some unidentified people had attacked two persons—Syed Zameer and Chandru—at Yeshwanthpur on Friday . The associates of Zameer and Chandru might have carried out the attacks as retaliation.
The Bangalore south division police have secured five persons for questioning, while the Rajgopal Nagar police have recovered a bike that was used to carry out the attack.

“The motive behind the incidents is yet to be ascertained. The police are investigating,” said Additional Commissioner of Police MR Pujar.

A few days ago, miscreants had indulged in similar acts at Mahalakshmi Layout and Vijaynagar.
