Mumbai, Sep 19
: A week-long stay for senior citizens was organized by Bombay South Kanara Brahmeens’ Association (BSKBA), at ‘Ashraya’, their old age home at Nerul, Navi Mumbai, here.

BSKBA president Dr Suresh S Rao presided over the concluding ceremony of the programme held at Ashraya Mini Hall here on Thursday September 17.

Prizes were awarded to the winners of various competitions held during their stay at Ashraya.

Dr Rao, speaking on the occasion, said that the senior citizens were forced to stay at old age homes for want of a choice since nuclear families lead hectic lives that leave little time for their children to care for them.

He called on the senior citizens to feel at home if they choose to stay in Ashraya where they can lead happy lives. “The senior citizens in the neighbourhood can also spend their time at Ashraya from 7.00 am to 11.00 pm”, he added.

Association honorary secretary A P K Poti, vice-president Laxmisha Acharya, Anant K Hebbar, joint secretary Chitra Melmane, and women’s wing president Chandravati Rao, were present on the dais.

Sunanda Upadya, and Veena Bhat were also present on the occasion.

Tara Bala Rao, Vaishali Rao, and Sahana Poti rendered the prayer song.  Anant K Hebbar welcomed the gathering.  Laxmisha Acharya and Chitra Melmane compered the programme.
