Mangalore, Jul 3:
The intermittent rain in the district has led to the collapse of two houses near Ullal in Mukkacheri on Friday July 3.

These houses situated near the sea shore had been damaged by increased sea erosion following the start of the monsoon. However, the residents had vacated the houses in June when the rains began thus, preventing casualties.

The houses belong to Zubeda and Athimol who have shifted to their relatives’ house near Thokkottu. Two other houses are in danger of collapsing and the residents of these houses have been relocated.

As efforts by the government to control sea erosion over the years have failed due to improper planning, it has become a recurrent problem during the monsoons. The residents near the sea shore live in constant fear of erosion which is eating away at the land, increasingly threatening their homes.

Town municipal officials visited the spot after receiving a complaint from the owners of the collapsed houses.

The dumping of boulders has also failed to control erosion as the stones slip down due to the force with which the waves pound them.

When year after year such accidents take place, why people don''t understand the danger that they would face by building houses in such areas. I agree with JOE D., and also request the concerned authories to ban such constructions at the sea shore or rather provide them safer place for living instead of compensating at a later stage when such calamities take place.

Pictures are nice, but the sad thing is that those who lost their houses. How it is possible that the permit is given to construct the house so near to sea?..there should be some CR zone area where some distance should be kept from sea level to the house, if I am correct.

Lovely pictures! Sad the houses are gone, but the fact is that the houses appear to have been illegally and deliberately built on the sea shore which is prone to sea erosion.

Creator and Nature has its'' own way to manage the earth we live in. Changes have taken place on land due to floods, earth quakes, lightnings, cyclones etc. But stupid part of it is that mankind has invaded the land and destroyed it to please their taste. A Turtle with small brain goes away from ocean to lay the eggs and raise the family. But large brained mankind goes close to the Ocean front to live with family. Whether We should laugh or cry for these families.

These people were lucky enough to survive another tragedy in this monsoon.People should be alerted in the close areas, not to be around in the bad weather.
