Bangalore, May 8: Two software engineers, who arrived at the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) here from the US, were today quarantined for suspected H1N1 influenza, a senior health official said.

"The two persons with suspected flu symptoms have been admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases here," Health Commissioner Shrinivasachari told PTI.

The Institute is one of the 13 hospitals identified by the Karnataka government to treat people with suspected flu symptoms, he said.

About 19,000 international passengers have so far been screened at BIA and Mangalore airport for the H1N1 flu, he added.

24 countries worldwide have been hit with the flu. Two more European countries, this time Sweden and Portugal, have confirmed Swine flu cases. Mexico, US, Canada, Colombia, Costa Rica, Spain, Germany and France continue to be affected.

According to World Health Organisation, Mexico has confirmed 942 cases and 29 Deaths. The United States has upped its list of confirmed cases to 642 cases and two deaths.

In Canada, the number stands at 165. Meanwhile, the first case in South America has been confirmed in Colombia. In central America, El Salvador has confirmed two cases and Costa Rica and Guatemala have confirmed one each.

Meanwhile in Europe, Spain has been hardest hit with 73 cases. In the UK, 28 cases have come to light and in Germany nine cases.

France and Italy have confimed five people with the virus while Austria, Denmark, Ireland, Netherlands, Switzerland, Portugal, Sweden and Poland have reported one case each.

In Asia, Israel has reported four cases, China has reported one and South Korea has two. New Zealand has so far confirmed six cases.
