Mangalore, Aug 24: MLA N Yogish Bhat has come out with a suggestion to include Yoga in the college curriculum, for imbibing qualities of conscientiousness, discipline and strong mental faculties among the college students.

He was speaking after inaugurating a district level educational workshop organized under the joint aegis of DK District PU and vocational education department and Balmatta government PU womens college in the city on Friday, August 22.

Lecturers working in government colleges should make an objective study on improving quality of education in their institutions. They should hold on strongly to the desired goal of achieving good results inspite of various problems dogging their colleges, he opined.

Bhat also felt, that the education department should wriggle out of practices such as delay in releasing promotions, delayed payment of salaries etc., Colleges should aim at improving their infrastructure and facilities with help from donors and organizations, he suggested. He also asked the college teachers to shun personal ego and nurture an environment of family within the college campus with their colleagues.

District deputy director of PU and vocational education department R Basavarajappa, who participated as chief guest, suggested to the lecturers to form subjectwise associations.

In his introductory address, Balmatta college lecturer Vasudev Kamat said, that criticisms and comments are frequently heard about government colleges, and this workshop was being organized to enable the college teachers to interact with one another and think of plans to give a fitting reply to the detractors by recording good results.

New Mangalore Port Trust  member Tejomaya presided.

Further to teaching yoga, I think Indians need to learn social ethics like keeping their areas clean, proper behaviour in public places, manners, community service. Further we should make compulsory in school subjects like basic carpentry, Electricals and electronics, Car Maintainence, Masonry, interiors, tailoring, music.

All these are subjects which will be more useful to earn their lively hood than all rubbish like history, physics, chemistry these can be taught only at college level for those who would be interested let the others go into more voccational education. or have a split after the 7th for those who prefer voccational to conventional. And special schools sponcered by the govt for voccational studies should be opened.
