Mangalore, Jun 22: Konkani enthusiasts had the opportunity to interact with well-known Konkani novelist and short story writer Stan Ageira, at a 'Meet the Author' programme held at Sandesha Hall in the city on Sunday, June 22.

The event was organized by the Konkani writer's forum, Karnataka, in association with Daiji Dubai, the forum of Konkani writers in the UAE. The audience made full use of the opportunity and posed numerous questions to Ageira on various issues, some personal and some literary, in an effort to understand the author better.

Melvyn Rodrigues, Director Operations, Daijiworld Media Pvt Ltd, was the chief guest and he also inaugurated the programme. 'Man has been telling stories from the day he learnt language.  Stories give birth to communities.  It is a powerful medium which brings direct communication between the story teller and the listener. Through stories, a child can live the old age and an old person can learn to live as a child. A man can touch the conscience of his wife and vice versa.  A good story opens the main door of the writers world', said Rodrigues in his inaugural address.

Over the past three decades, Ageira has written more than 220 short stories. He will remain forever in the history of Konkani literature, added Rodrigues.

Ageira spoke about his journey as a writer, his life, various influences, and his views on short stories.

Dr Edward Nazareth, president, Konkani writers forum, Karnataka, also spoke on the occasion. Richard Moras, president, Konkani kuttom, Bahrain, was present and felicitated Ageira with a shawl, memento, and fruit basket.

Dolphy Cascia, secretary, Konkani Writers forum, Karnataka welcomed the gathering.  Marcel D'Souza compered the programme.  Joachim Pinto proposed vote of thanks.

Well-known Konkani wrtiers Edie Netto, Jerry Kulshekar, Irene Pinto, Shalini Valencia, HM Pernal, Andrew L DCunha, Liyab, Gladys Rego, Catherine Rodrigues, M Patrick and J F DSouza Attavar were present.

Congrats Stan and Hats off to Daiji Dubai for organizing such a programme. As my mentor, I learnt a lot with Stan and always a great help in studies, socializing, culture, journalism, literature, drama, leadership etc. He is an institute. Therefore, extracts from the above programme should be published on Daiji because it will help the young generation a lot.
