Mumbai: Ravi Shastri's Father Dr M J Shastri (77) Passes away

Mumbai, Dec 11: Dr M Jayadratha Shastri (77), a medical practitioner based in Mahim here and father of Ravi Shastri, a former cricket allrounder and currently a popular commentator, passed away in a private hospital in the city in the early hours of Monday, December 10. He was ailing from pneumonia.

He was the son of Dr M C Shastri, a well-known Ayurvedic physician of Mangalore. Their family is known as a family of physicians.

Jayadratha had his medical education in Madras, the present Chennai, and started practising in Mumbai. During his college days, he was a wicketkeeper and also active in athletics.

In June 2007, he, accompanied by family members, had visited Yerlapady-Karvalu near Mangalore, the ancestral place of the Shastri family.

Dr Shastri is survived by wife Laxmi, son Ravi and daughter Dr Deepika Shastri.
