Chairman and CEO of Fairfax Financial Holdings, Canada visits St Aloysius College

Mangalore, Jul 25: Prem Watsa, the Chairman and CEO of Fairfax Financial Holdings, Canada visited St Aloysius College on 24th July 2007. He flew in by his private jet just to visit St Aloysius College. Mr Watsa is known as the “Warren Buffet of the North”, manages the financial investment company FAIRFAX, Canada with a turnover of over $31 billion. He is a distinguished alumnus of IIT, Madras and also recipient of IIT Distinguished Alumnus Award in 1999.





“What the mind has decided it can achieve", said Watsa. He was speaking to the MBA students of Aloysius Institute of Business Administration (AIBA) St Aloysius College Mangalore. He said , “India is exploding”, meaning that India is at a particular juncture in history, and that there are opportunities to those who are daring and are ready take risks in life. He asked students to remember the slogan “Never say die”. He urged the young Management students to think big and achieve success. He gave examples from his own life and his humble origin to bring home the point that however small we are, we can achieve success if we have the right orientation. He informed the students of how he had come up in life by mere dedication and hard work. He also praised to St Aloysius college where his father had his education, and the value systems it had installed in him and his family. Fr Denzil Lobo, Director of AIBA welcomed the gathering, and Ms. Minu proposed the vote of thanks.






Watsa also visited Aloysian Boys home at Kotekar, Ullal, the delinquent home run by St Aloysius College. There are 120 kids who are looked after by St Aloysius College under the guidance of sisters of Charity. He appreciated the work done by the College by extending excellent facilities to these lost children.

A delightful message to read about the eminent visit of Mr. Prem Watsa to Mangalore who was kind enough to spend some quality time with St. Aloysius group and share some of the future projects on the drawing board. Congratulations are extended to Fr. Denzil for developing so many valuable contacts during his recent trip to North America and familiarize so many distinguished people in this part of the world on the noble work carried out by the Jesuits at St. Aloysius College.
