Odisha students bag second prize in NASA contest

Bhubaneswar, March 26 (IANS): A model designed by school students from Odisha has bagged a prize in a global contest co-sponsored by NASA Ames and the National Space Society, the school said Wednesday.

Zenith's Labyrinth, a space colony designed by Class 8 students of Bhubaneswar's KIIT International School bagged the second prize in the NASA Ames Space Settlement Design Contest 2014 in the Grade VIII category.

Six students - Aman Patnaik, Abhishek Mahapatra, Sai Krishanth P.M., Nitish Mohanty, Satwik Gadnayak and Saurik Mishra - worked for over 12 weeks to develop the futuristic model, the school said in a statement.

NASA Ames Research Center in conjunction with the National Space Society sponsors this global annual space settlement design contest for Class 6-12 students.

Engineers and scientists of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) select the winners.

The winners have been invited to participate in the International Space Development Conference to be held in Los Angeles in May, the statement said.

It's a big achievement for India and Odisha too.
Congratulation to the young team of KIIT including guide.
Keep it up.
We should inspire by this and lot of this type of involvement should start like brain-storming session in school/collages mainly.
For that our country and state should work very closely and inspire our boys and girls not only OR specifically IIT/NIT's other colleges also where from these growing buddies are rising which straightaway representing country only.
Govt should start more and more R&D investment for these.

Thanks God.

Will wait for the best.

Congratulations :):) guys. one question to govt of India. NASA comes to India and recognizes such a bright and talented students, but why not our govt doing something for such a talented folks. I think time has come to re-think about the situation otherwise we'll completely lost our talent and will keep migrating our talent pool to US and Europe.

A thinker for the nation......
