Dubai, May 13: The Sheikh Rashid Auditorium of the Indian High School, Dubai was packed with Konkani music-crazy audience, who had gathered to enjoy a quality  show, in which well-known Goan and Mangalorean stars perfomed on on a single stage, on Friday, May 12.

The celebration was organized by Mangalore Konkans, Dubai's seniormost Konkani organization, and the only Mangalorean association affiliated to the Indian Association, to mark their 18th anniversary.

With the Mangalore Konkans known as the best and disciplined organizers of events, the 'Me-Ga' show organized by them on Friday was yet another example of their classy organizing skills.

The show began with a tribute to Mick Max, who had passed away in Mangalore last month. It was fondly recalled that that Mick Max had compered the show in 2004 to mark the 15th glorious anniversary celebration of Mangalore Konkans.

Lorna, the Goan nightingale, made a remarkable entry to a huge applause from the audience to start the show.

Thereafter it was a music-filled fest for the  music-lovers. To make the audience laugh to glory, two teams of comedians lined up and did a marvellous job in keeping the the gathering fully entertained.

The Dolla-Kulla pair was extraordinary, as their movements and gestures alone made people laugh more than their dialogues. They were supported by local talents Lily Almeida, Maushumi D`Souza and Stany.

Another Goan team which enthralled with jokes were Sanio, Francis and team. They presented and enacted humorous jokes, displaying a true sense of humor.

The musical part was most interesting and entertaining. The auditorium itself is a fantastic place where the effect of music can be enjoyed with with clarity and quality.

Lorna, the crooner par excellence, was unbeatable as usual. She has a huge fan following and she made the audience to ask for more and more music. Her numbers 'Noxibak Roddttam', 'Bebdo', 'Pisso', 'Nachoiam', 'Calangute' etc. were in huge demand with encores.

The credit should also go to Norman, Lorna's music director for the event. Anceta is another Goan singer who makes an impressive performance with pleasing number of his lyrics 'Monglurkar iea Goenkar', 'Lovely Esta' and 'Burgem'.

Claud D`Souza, who performed his successful 38th musical nite in Mangalore last week had quickly adjusted to the Dubai crowd and he rendered his popular numbers. He made an entry with the very popular 'Wilma Maria' and then with Reena he rendered his own lyrics. He also sang the late Jerome D`Souza's song 'Anjaea Sarkem Cheddum Tem'.

Reena D`Souza, daughter of music legend the late Jerome D`Souza,  had arrived only the previous night from Mumbai. But it is to her credit that she showed no signs of fatigue, and her stage presentation itself made audience to appreciate her performance. She is indeed a classy singer,  and it is no surprise that she has been involved in Bollywood and international shows.

She paid rich tribute to her father by singing the song sung by him - "Mai mhuntta, ti xegunnanchi sun, pai mhunntta bore tiche gunn". She also appeared in duet songs with Claud "Raja - rani", "Dream girl" and others.

Rony D`Cunha, the darling of Konkani audience, who made a big name at some of the recent shows was at his professional best in his approach to singing. His commitment to the Konkani music is indeed llaudable. Perhaps, Rony is the only singer of his generation who made a memorable mark among the Konkani music lovers. He paid a memorable to tribute to Mick Max by singing his sentimental 'Tuje sobit te don dolle'. Also he impressed the Goan audience by singing Chris Perry's evergreen songs (originally sung by the late Mohammed Rafi) - "Maria" and "Bon Jesuchea re Conventant".

West-Breez, led and directed by Robert Viegas directed the music, gave a performance which was just fantastic.

The Ocean Kids dance troup led by Vinod Sequeira performed some splendid dance shows to keep the audience on their toes.

During the interval, Mangalore Konkans, Dubai felicitated event sponsors, and those who helped them to organize the show successfully.

Manohar Pais, who needs no introduction when it comes to compering, took charge of the programme with his experienced compering skills. He was lively as usual and indeed did a fantastic job, especially when it was not easy to handle a mixed crowd with different vocabularies.

Earlier Mangalore Konkans president James Mendonca welcomed the gathering.

Valerian Peris, main co-coordinator of the event, later speaking to daijiworld said, "We are quite happy that the show went well as it is usual with all our shows. The teamwork of mangalore Konkans is indeed setting standards in event management." He also thanked his team for the tremendous show.

The show ended at 10.30pm Though it was a Friday, the attendance was more than 1400.
