Bantwal: Anantadi villagers protest shifting of GP office

Bantwal, Sep 4: Anantadi gram panchayat office covering Nellamudkuru and Anantadi gram situated at Babanakatte, is proposed to be shifted to Rajiv Gandhi service centre at Neralakatte at Netlamudnur grama.  Anantadi villagers held a protest meeting against the move near Neralakatte Rajiv Gandhi service center.

Several people from Anantadi and Netlamudnur grama assembled at the place of the protest and there were arguments between those for and those against the move causing a turbulent situation.  Bantwal police team led by circle inspector Anil S Kulkarni and Vittal station police inspector Madhava Kudlu and the team ensured that no untoward incidents occurred.

Bantwal taluk panchayat chief works executive Vishwanath Poojary, Deputy tahsildar Parameshwar Moily, Vittal excise inspector Govinda Nayak, Netlamudnoor village accountant Raju Lamani and Panchayat development officer K Jayaram met the protestors at the place of protest and tried to convince them saying that the order from Deputy commissioner cannot be defied and requested them to cooperate.       

 As taluk panchayat officer who received the petition from Anantadi villagers promised that he will forward it to deputy commissioner, district panchayat and taluk tahsildar and take suitable action on it, the protest was called off.

Details of the incident:

It was decided to shift Bantwal taluk Anantadi gram panchayat office to Neralakatte Rajiv Gandhi service center in a meeting held in 2012 July vide  notification ref No. 16/12-13.  The notification was also published in the newspapers.  Based on the notifications, three people objected and seven people supported the move.  The deputy commissioner who examined the letters observed that none of them have assigned reasons for their objections or support.

Decision of the grama panchayat

Based on the report of chief work administrator of Zilla panchayat, the petitions of the villagers and in the interest of the villagers, the deputy commissioner has ordered on August 27 for shifting of Neralakatte grama panchayat office to Rajiv Gandhi service center that is situated in between Netlamudnooru and Ananthadi gramas.

In view of the developments, Grama panchat president Samitha D Poojary, Panchayat development officer, staff and members of of Anantadi grama panchayat had shifted some of the items in the office to the Rajiv Gandhi Service center.  However, Anantadi grama area’s grama panchayat members B Narendra Rai, Satish, Geetha Chandrashekar, Vasanth Gowda, Sujatha, Sumithra and Bantranje school SDMC president Ganesh Poojary protested that the panchayat office should be continued in the earlier place at Baba Nakkatte.

Zilla panchayat member R Chennappa Kotian, Taluk panchayat president Lalitha Shivappa Naik, member Dinesh Amtoor arrived and helped to dilute the situation.  Panchayat vice president D Thaniappa Gowda, members Sridhar Rai, Abbas N, Neetha, Gulabi, villagers Venkappa Rai Kurlettimaru, N K Kasim, Suresh Ganiga, Ummar Kunhi, Razak Saheb, Seetharam Rai, Arun Prasad Rai, Sanjeev Shetty Kodangemaru, Addu Parlottu and Satish Meenavu participated in the meeting.
