Karkala: Baby born safely in ambulance

Daijiworld Media Network – Karkala (SP)

Karkala, Jun 7: Nagaveni (23) from Mangalanagar in Ajekar village in the taluk gave birth to a baby girl while being taken in 108 ambulance to the hospital on Thursday June 6.

The ambulance, which is operated from the government hospital in Ajekar, received a call from Nagaveni’s family that she was in labour, at around 4.45 am on Thrusday. Although her home is located about five km away from the hospital, the ambulance took 15 minutes to reach there, because of road conditions and difficult terrain.

After picking up Nagaveni, the ambulance was returning to its base, when Nagaveni’s labour pain turned acute, and she delivered a baby. Paramedic of the ambulance, Jaykumar, and vehicle driver, Santhosh, handled the situation skillfully. It is learnt that in the past too, four deliveries had occurred inside the ambulance in the region.
