Canada: New Konkani association formed in Brampton

Canada: New Konkani association formed in Brampton

Media Release

Brampton (Canada), Jun 4: A new association, called the KCOB, has been formed to bring Konkani Catholics living in Brampton under one umbrella.

Brampton, a city so diverse, home to so many cultures from every corner of the world, also houses a big number of Konkani Catholics living in harmony with other cultures, providing a strong economic contribution to the city.

There are various registered Konkani associations in prominent cities of Canada like Mississauga, Scarborough, Ottawa, Vancouver etc, that organise many cultural events for the members of the associations providing them a platform to meet and socialise with the community. These events are predominantly organised in cities where these organisations have been formed and active. Konkani Catholics of Brampton are usually left with choosing one of these cities and are divided in their choices, thus losing an opportunity to meet other Konkani families of Brampton to cultivate a cultural bonding.

To overcome this void of Bramptoners and to harvest a fresh and much needed cultural bonding among the community, Konkani Catholics of Brampton (KCOB) was formed. The vision is to bring cultural events, entertainment, platform to know fellow community members and more over to bring Mangalorean culture here in Brampton.

KCOB will organize Monthi Fest celebration on September 7, 2013 as its first event and the details are as below:

Mr.Desi Jawan, what is wrong in publishing the pictures of Brampton Mangaloreans and their families. We love to see Mangaloreans and their activities around the world. If you are in the Military, as your name indicates, publish your pictures too. We may salute you.... you never know.

Congratulations KCOB!
I have been here for 32 years but finally happy to hear that now we will have a Mangalorean association in Brampton. Till now, I had to travel other places to enjoy the celebrations now I am happy that I dont need to do it anymore. I found some messages disturbing but wasn't able to understand the true motive behind them. My opionion is the more we spread our Mangaloean culture the better will it be for us. So more the Mangalorean associations, happier should we be. Cheers!!

Hello, Desi Jawan,

I don't see the problem in having more locations. If anything, it should be encouraged as it shows and provides a place for more Mangaloreans to come together. I'm not sure (seeing as you're from Mangalore) if you're aware that Brampton has a large population of Mangaloreans who perhaps don't want to travel to Mississauga or Scarborough. I don't see any attempt to compete in any way. No association is better than the other, they all serve the same purpose. I would also hope that it is not being done for name or fame purposes and that we all remember it is to celebrate the birth of our Blessed Virgin Mary.

Very happy to read this news. As I have small kids, every Monti Fest I was feeling bad that my kids were missing the real joy of the Monti Fest celebration. Neither was I able to take my kids to other cities nor were they able to understand about the way this fest of Mother Mary was being celebrated back home in India. Thanks to the people who have come ahead and formed KCOB and making this happen. Really appreciate it.

CONGRATULATIONS! It’ll be convenient for more Mangaloreans residing in Brampton to have an opportunity to venerate Mother Mary and celebrate Monthi Fest in their neighbourhood.

OMG, one more association in Canada that too into he GTA and its surrounding regions! Association in Toronto, Mississauga, Scarborough and now in Brampton. Some contact names appears same as associated with one another. This appears now that Canada too are in neck to neck race in competition with the Mangalorean Associations around GCC counties who have their association related to community, religion, parish and wards! It is a bit too much to understand. Hope this is not done for name and fame purposes so that member and member families photos appear on some website.
