Mangalore: BJP has spoiled Karnataka's image, Congress will restore it: Sonia Gandhi

Mangalore, Apr 27: Indian National Congress president Sonia Gandhi on Saturday April 27 addressed a public meeting at Nehru Maidan here and lashed out the the ruling BJP state government for not providing good governance.

Sonia was in the city as part of her campaign tour of the state. After arriving at Mangalore airport in the morning, she proceeded to Chikmagalur and then came back to the city to address the rally.

"I am delighted to this lovely, beautiful and historic city which has given birth to several leaders, social reformers and philosphers. The region represents unity in diversity with its several beautiful temples, mosques and churches, but sadly, during the past several years, social and communal harmony, which is hallmark of Karnataka, has been badly damaged by the destructive activities of fundamentalist organizations. They are divisive outfits, they have no agenda other than to spread hatred and obtaining their personal political end," she said, expressing concerns over the moral policing cases and clashes in the city and around.

Taking on the BJP over the issue of corruption, she said, "Various investors have wanted to come to Karnataka, but now they are leaving the state and looking at other states because of political interference and the corruption of the state government.

"The infrastructure is crumbling here. There was a time when other states looked up to Karnataka for good govenance. The state with its achievements in various sectors was an example for others and a role model to all. But now corruption and immoral behaviour have increased and crossed all limits," she said.

"A government should provide good adminstration, ensure security of people and help them to live with dignity. That is the main duty of the government. But farmers here in the state are in distress. They work day and night to provide food but do no get anything. The case is the same with fishermen community here in Mangalore. Their problems are ignored. Problems like lack of drinking water facility still persist, and law and order has collapsed here," she added.

"The Congress-led UPA govt has given vast amount of funds to the state for various development projects and social programmes, but the funds are not at all spent. Where has the money disappeared?" she demanded.

Outlining the development works of the Congress-led UPA, she said her government has given the city Mangalore International Airport. "We will continue out development work here. If you want brighter future, the main ingredient is stability, without which no party can give good future to the people," Sonia said.

"BJP had promised 24 hours of electricity. Where is that electricity. I am sure they knew they could not provide 24 hours electricity, we know that we cannot provide it, but we will ensure at least 8-9 hours of electricity, and that is what we have promised in our manifesto," she said.

Expressing confidence that Congress would be back to power in the state, she said, "The immediate task for Congress is to restore the image of Karnataka which has been badly battered by the BJP. Karnataka should retain its place at the top in all the sectors, and make it the pride of the country. The Congress has always rejected communal ideology, and any ideology that spreads hatred to tear apart our communal fabric. The Congress will strive hard to ensure that communal harmony thrives and prospers. The promises made by us will be dwelt upon seriously. We mean what we say."

"As promised we have implemented RTI Act, because the Congress wanted to fight corruption and pushed hard to bring this Act; the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act, Right to Education Act, Tribal Rights Bill which has not been implemented in Karnataka as the government is least bothered, Food Security Bill, which ensures that no one suffers from malnutirtion or hunger, Land Rehabilitation Bill so that farmers get the right price for their land and others. Importance has been given to minorties, women and weaker sections of the community. Funds have been released by the UPA to states for several programmes," she said.

"I am very happy about results of municipal elections here, we have received good suport. Even prior to that, Jayaprakash Hegde was elected as MP. Both these instances indicate that people are looking for a change and the change will come on May 5," she asserted.

She appealed to the voters to come in large numbers and vote for Congress. "Cast your vote for stability, better future of Karnataka, and for better future of your city," she concluded.

KPCC president Dr Parameshwar in his welcome address said, "This election is important for us. For the past five years we have seen no progress. The state has lost its respect in various ways. To overcome all this, election is important so that we have have good administration."

"In the last Assembly elections, though BJP did not get majority support they ruled the state. People have tolerated enough, and now they want change. For the benefit of people, in the current manifesto we have stated that we will provide 30 kg of rice at Re 1, subsidy of Rs 4 on milk and various development programmes for the city. We will provide transperant administration," he assured.

Congress leaders Ambika Soni, Oscar Fernandes, Janardhan Poojary, and Madhusudhan Mistry were present.

Whatever it is, my vote is only for Congress in karnataka. BJP party fellows only interested in secretly hoisting pakistani flag in sindhagi and creating communal disturbance, by saying muslims hoisted flag, and creating hindu-muslim conflict, and also responsible for church attacks in mangalore.

All minorities should only vote for congress. BJP only interested in looting the state, and playing vote-bank politics with communal and caste divide.

We still do not know how fool proof our "Elcrtonic Voting Machine" are!!!

Some time back in the recent past there were some news reports carried out by some leading daily newspapers about the authenticity of it.

Vincent Praveen Castelino, Pernal / Mumbai
Sunday, April 28, 2013

Need of the hour is to install CC T.V camera's and record and also to monitor the maximum "Trouble Maker & Sensitive" election booths if possible!!! and viable!!! for the Election Commission of India during "All" elections.

And of course not to forget to check the tampering of "Electronic Voting Machines" even before and after the voting. Vested interest can go to any extent because Everything is possible "Only in India"
I am not doubting the "Election Commission Of India" but certainly the so called "Hard Core" paid "Show Managers" of Karnataka.

It's the money that makes the difference in today's society and "some people" go to any extent to earn that ready & fast buck and we all know that in India "Law Enforcing Machinery" is just a "Watch Dog" & a "Mute Spectator" ....most of the time!!!

Then only you can call it a "Free and Fair Election"

What is the context for her visit? Are JPoojary or OFerandes the candidates for this election? Where are the actual candidates. Nowhere to be seen. This is the problem with the Gandhi family. They and their party are above all. Candidates are just tag alongs and they don't deserve any respect...so they must be kept far away. If this is the attitude towards your own candidates, what would be your attitude to aam aadmi? Unfortuntely Congress has not got rid of the hangover of 60 years of power and continues to function like our Indian Democracy that belongs to very few. Congress party urgently needs sanitisation viz., get rid of the Gandhi family if Congress is to ever make meaningful progress. Will never vote for this party ever.

Of course BJP spoiled the Karnataka image and yeddy had to start KJP. In indian politics there is wide spread corruption and BJP is not an exception. Because of powerful media the corruptions are revealed then and there. Gradually the system will weed out the corruption if the regulations are in place. Our Judiciary need to be more aggressive and control the politicians. Election commission must not allow criminals to enter politics. Finally we need some one to rule Karnataka and I feel 'known devil is better than unknown angel'. This time it is testing period for Congress and if they win they have to fulfill the promises of people or it may be last chance for them. Sonia has tremendous ability to transform Karnataka.

I agree with wellwisher.. Since the past 5 years our MLA has only given us empty promises. Bhat has remained passive and quiet whenever there was a major issue in Mangalore.

He has kept on repeating the following promises before election -24/7 power and water supply, vented dam, infrastructural development plans, but nothing has materialized.

We Mangaloreans call ourselves "INTELLIGENT".. But I feel we are being repeatedly fooled by our present MLA.

This time we must vote for Lobo instead of voting for Bhat who has only given empty promises since the past 4 terms.

Most of the politicians and ministers in current lot are polluted and corrupted. We need stable and good government, fact is that it is indeed not possible to clean out all corrupted people in 5 years. Opposition party blames ruling for not doing some thing, When opposition comes to power they will be blamed by opposition party. All this blame game. Sonia Gandhi doing the same thing here. His son in law involved in scam which they tried to hide.... Better not to blame and look forward to clean out all.

Some people are commenting as if Sonia Gandhi is responsible for rape cases in Delhi. If that is the case whether Jagadish Shettar and Advani are responsible for Ujre Soujanya rape case?

Somebody also has commented that she has money is Swiss bank. If that is the case provide the proof to BJP leaders in Delhi so that they can take up in Parliament as well as through court. BJP is spreading false propoganda and they forget that Sonia is still a darling of poor people in India.

So called strong leader Modi is spending crores of money for advertising himself as strong and developing leader. Sonia does not need that and her concerns for poor is evident from the various programmes including MNREGA, RTI, Food bill and education bill.

Remember how 'India Shining' slogan backfired and same thing is going to happen with the advertisement of BJP leader Modi.If Modi would have spent this money on poor in Gujarat that would have been great service to this country.

whole india looted by congress since 60 years ....good joke from soniaji...

P. R. Akash, India
Saturday, April 27, 2013

Whereever she goes, this lady gives the same speech whether in Karnataka, or any other State. Congis ruled Karnataka for 2-3 decades and the development works were very negligible. They don't have any moral right to comment on corruption as the Congi party is drowned in massive corruption, scams, blackmoney etc.,

Even if Congis come to power this time, it will be shortlived. Those corrupt politicians are just waiting for their turn to loot the state.

Oduvudu Veda Haakuvudu Gala..
