Bhatkal: Multiple accidents leave one dead, several injured

Bhatkal, Apr 12: Road safety has become a cause for concern in Bhatkal and the surrounding region, with accidents claiming lives of citizens almost every day. In a span of just 24 hours, one life was lost and nearly 10 persons injured in separate mishaps.
In a tragic accident which occurred in the town on Wednesday April 10, Musaddique (45) son of Mohammed Hussain Hallare, was killed on the spot. The accident occurred when the motor bike Musaddique was riding collided with a truck carrying electric poles belonging to Karnataka Electricity Board.
His motor bike hit the truck that was being reversed near Masjid-e-Abubakar Siddiqui on Jamia Abad Road here. Reportedly, the motor bike was moving at high speed at the time of the accident, as a result of which, the body of the rider got tossed to a distance of about 50 meters. He died instantly. Although people in the vicinity rushed to help him, he had passed away before they could do anything.
Police sub-inspector of Bhatkal station, Johnson DíSouza, along with his subordinates, arrived on the spot. A case relating to the accident was registered in the police station, and post mortem was conducted at the government hospital here.
In another accident, two motor bikes collided with each other near Ranginkatte on national highway here on the night of Wednesday. Two youth, identified as Inayatullah (29) and Sauban Armar (19), who were seriously injured in the accident, were provided with initial treatment at the government hospital here before being sent to Mangalore for advanced treatment. The two are said to be cousins. The rider of the other motor bike sped away from the spot of the accident, and the policemen of the town police station here, who have registered a case, are making efforts to trace his whereabouts.
After a motor bike hit a car at Venkatapur in the outskirts of the town, Gonda (30), who was riding the motor bike, suffered injuries. He was admitted into a hospital here. The accident occurred at around 10 pm on Wednesday, and a case in this connection was registered in the town police station here.
In another accident, which happened at about 11.30 pm at Belke here on Wednesday, an auto rickshaw driver was critically injured, after his vehicle overturned, while trying to avoid hitting a stray dog which suddenly crossed his path. He was shifted to Kundapur for treatment after being provided with first aid at the local hospital.
A case in this connection was registered in the rural police station here.
To these accidents, another was added at about 1 am on Thursday, when a truck and a government bus were involved with a collision. Four persons were injured in the accident. All of them were admitted into a hospital in Kundapur. A case in this respect too was registered by the Bhatkal police.
