Udupi: Geologist caught red-handed by Lokayukta, Rs 51,000 seized

Udupi, Mar 20: Lokayukta police on Tuesday March 19 arrested a geologist at Rajatadri in Manipal red-handed while accepting bribe.
The geologist is identified as Girish Mohan (36). Police seized bribe money Rs 4,500 and an additional Rs 47,000 illegal income of the day from him.
Sandeep Kotian, a resident of Herga gram was into sand mining business in a stream near Manipal. As his licence had expired, he submitted an application to the geological department for renewal. It is said that Girish demanded a bribe of Rs 3,000 for the work to be done. Sandeep who did not want to pay the amount informed the Lokayukta police.
Acting on the complaint, Lokayukta police raided the office on Tuesday evening and caught Girish red-handed while accepting bribe. Bribe money of Rs 4,500 and Rs 47,000, illegal income which was in his drawer was seized by the Lokayukta police.
Under the guidance of Udupi lokayukta DYSP Vittaldas Pai, inspector Dinesh Kumar, officials Ė Ramachandra Bhat, Diwakar Sharma, Diwakar Suvarna, Shoba, Nagesh Udupa, Sridar, Riyaaz Ahmed, Umesh, Santhosh, Dinesh, Ashok, Shivaraya Billawa, Laxmidara Shet among others were part of the operation.
