Mysore, Feb 8: Opposing the final order of Cauvery Tribunal asking Karnataka to release water from KRS dam here to Tamil Nadu for raising crops, former Karnataka Chief Minister, B S Yeddyurappa, began his Padayatra from Mysore to Bangalore, on Thursday morning.
The Padayatra started on a positive note with the performance of puja to Goddess Chamundi at the hill shrine, and Karnataka Janata Party (KJP) getting a glamorous touch with the entry of Kannada actress Shruthi.
Shruthi, who has earned tremendous fan following during her career spanning over two decades in films, and who had functioned as the chairperson of Karnataka State Women’s Development Corporation when Yeddyurappa was the state Chief Minister, before stepping down on account of certain controversies, has been made the vice-president of KJP’s state women’s unit.
Former minister Shobha Karandlaje, and former chairperson of Karnataka State Women’s Commission Manjula were present.
Speaking thereafter, Shruthi stressed that she was in politics to serve the distressed and exploited women. She said she would not fight the election, nor will she aspire for any post. Asserting her unflinching faith in Yeddyurappa’s capabilities, she pledged to work for strengthening KJP.
At the inaugural of the Padayayatra, Yeddyurappa urged Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, to mediate between the two states to sort out Cauvery dispute, and to withhold implementation of the final order of the tribunal. He pointed out that KRS dam does not have water for release to Tamil Nadu, and urged the Supreme Court to depute two judges to conduct spot inspection of the dam.
The Padayatra reached Srirangapatna on Thursday evening. It will move to Mandya today.
