Dubai: Plenty of events lined up for Mangalore Konkans Sports Meet

Dubai, Feb 5: Preparations are in full swing as the countdown begins to the much-awaited Konkan Sports Meet scheduled to kick off on Friday February 8 at the premises of Higher Colleges of Technology - Men’s College near Silicone Oasis, Dubai. This indeed is a special year for Mangalore Konkans Dubai and for all those who have been associated with them, during the past 25 years of it’s active involvement in community service.

As part of year-round celebration, "Konkan Sports Meet 2013' is the first event to be held which is open to all Konkani speaking people of all ages interested in participating in field and track events, throws, relays, tug of war and many other fun filled games. Lunch will be hosted by the organizers for all the guests and the participants.

The meet will start at 9.30 am with time for networking and warming up, followed by inauguration session, and is likely to wind up at around 6.30 pm. Participation is open to all Konkani speaking people of Konkan origin.

The meet is aimed at providing an ideal opportunity for a family outing with an objective of promoting ‘Excellence’, ‘Friendship’ and ‘Mutual Respect’ through competitive sports. Being part of the silver jubilee celebrations, the organizers have left no stone unturned to ensure that the meet is enjoyed by everyone who participates.

With 47 individual track and field events, generation relay and tug of war catering to all age groups, over 500 people are expected to participate. While the last minute registrations are still underway, the response has been over whelming. Entry is free other than for tug of war. Light lunch is being hosted by the organizers.

Free transport has been arranged for those who are willing to commute to the venue. Buses will leave from the Parking lot opposite to Lulu Super Market Karama around 8.30 am. With the past experience of organizing successful cultural events and sports meets, the organizers are confident to appeal guests and participants in large numbers.

The organizers gratefully acknowledge the support of Millennium Insurance Brokers Co LLC as the event partner, Daijiworld.com as the media partner, Nestle Waters for providing water, Mangalore Hills and Thumbay Group for medical checkups.

Mangalore Konkans Dubai has the credit of organizing the first ever sports meet in the UAE for the Konkan community in the year 1999 and they still carry on the tradition of doing so once in two years.

The organizers have left no stone unturned, to deliver an event of ultimate perfection without glitches to the community and create a platform to exhibit the latent talents of Sportsmanship, paving a way to Camaraderie and harmony.
