Aus Radio Network to Give 500,000 Dollars to Jacintha's Family

Aus Radio Network to Give 500,000 Dollars to Jacintha's Family

Melbourne, Dec 11 (PTI): An Australian radio network, whose prank call to a British hospital treating a pregnant Kate Middleton led to the death of an Indian-origin nurse, today said it would contribute at least 500,000 dollars to a memorial fund to help the grieving family of the woman.

Southern Cross Austereo had aired the controversial prank call conducted by 2Day FM DJs with two London nurses, including Jacintha Saldanha who was later found dead under mysterious circumstances.

The radio network said it would resume the advertising and donate its profit to help Saldanha's family. It said that it would make a minimum 500,000 Australian dollar (USD 523,600) donation to the fund.

Following global condemnation after the death of Saldanah, Austereo had suspended all advertising on 2Day FM and was reportedly reviewing company polices and processes. The two hosts involved in the prank call have also been taken off air until further notice.

"All profits from advertising on 2DayFM until the end of the year will be donated to an appropriate fund that will directly benefit the family of Jacintha Saldanha," a statement from the radio network said.

"Southern Cross Austereo today reiterates its deep regret for what has taken place in these tragic and unforeseen circumstances and offers its condolences to the family of Jacintha Saldanha."

Southern Cross chief executive Rhys Holleran said the company was deeply saddened by "this tragic and unforeseen event and offers its condolences to the family of Jacintha Saldanha."

"We hope that by contributing to a memorial fund we can help to provide the Saldanha family with the support they need at this very difficult time," he said.

Aboriginals the true land owners of Australia have no respect in their own country. You can imagine how Indians are treated over there?? Living in Australia for a while I know exactly how Jacintha must felt. Its not easy to live in a white man's land.

please refrain from liking this comment. I do not want to be a moral police as this is a somber time for everyone. Shirva, mangalore should not have been infamous for such a tragedy. Please remember the Saldanha family and the entire manglorean community will need to heal and these barbaric comments may never heal those wounds, especially if with those who have been directly affected by these comments.

@Mr.Dinesh Shetty and Mr.Simon Fernandes, why do you use this forum to talk about irrelevant matters and above all crib about other peoples life decisions? If you are flaunting out other peoples struggles in their life decisions, then you all need to evaluate your presence in society. Mind you the headline states retribution to the Saldanha Family, but you (both) have used it as a forum to outshine the headline. Please re-evaluate your position in society and stop commenting on other people's decisions. Should you choose to further talk on this matter, then it just shows to others, that you may have tried "migrating" but you were unsuccessful. Please stick to the topic, or better yet leave the keyboard look out the window and just be content with what you have.

Mr.Dinesh Shetty, no more discussion please.

Pray that Jacinta's soul RIP and the family gets a closure.

I agree with your comments Mr. Dinesh, those who have migrated are loosers because what is India they will not get anywhere in the world. Okay India is not clean, corrupted, no system, etc., etc., the list is long, but remember there is one thing that you will get in India and not anywhere else, that is love, affection and warmth, no matter who we are we , we are welcomed with a glass of water free of cost.
If you want to experience you need to travel.
I salute India and Gulf, these countries are heaven on earth for me.

Mr. Shetty, you are 100% right. Life overseas seems pathetic. Those who went there don't admit it. One is better in their own country no matter how difficult life is compared to foreign countries. One has nothing to look for after they have lost everything from culture to children and everything in between.

If the grass is green in India today, can u bring back those thousands of workers from the Gulf countries and give them job? many are suffering fm non payment of salary and deportation etc etc. U are living in MUMBAI under the fear of Shiva Sena! where are you king??? What is the wrong if Canadians showel their own snow? At least they got Canadian passport, in that can visit 170 countries without visa. Where is the respect of Indian passport holders?? India is still called third world countries coz of people like you!

Wednesday, December 12, 2012

Dear Sherol Rebello, you went to Australia probably at a time when the grass was green over there. Sadly to say, it is greener in India today. Whatever may be anyone's argument, you are a KING in your own land. Everyone knows the job scene in Australia or in the west. Many are living on "dole". This happens to our people emigrating to Canada / US too. To say the least, many who emigrated years ago cannot visit even their families in India once in 5 years, whether for a wedding or funeral. You cannot just go across for a surgery as there is a queue system unless its an emergency. Medicines & medical treatment are frightfully expensive. In India, if you have the money , a good job or in business ( to match your family status ) the luxuries come along. These are true facts for 80% of the emigrants.

My relative in Canada has already started showelling snow on a daily basis! If not, he cannot remove his car from the garage and get to work. He had a wonderful job in Qatar and worked there for 22 years. He and his family are miserable in Canada and they want to get back to Qatar & India. Anyway, if you are personally happy in Australia, why not. Best of luck always.

Dear M DSouza, Mangalore/USA. By reading your comments, I am sure your are a doctor. I am 100% in agreement with u. Those who have worked with British, Europeans will understand the insults one will go through and at the same time, only those who have experienced life with them, will understand their internal functioning too.

As mentioned earlier, Jacintha's death is under mysterious circumstances. Here we have to blame the so called Royal hospital staff because they have appointed a professionla nurse as a receptionist.

Jascintha is a bold girl and always had very good bond with the family, so writing a suicide note itself is a mystery. Is it a typed one or handwritten. If it is a typed one, with signature, then again it leads to many doubts.

RIP Jascinta.

RIP Jacintha! Whatever has happened cannot be undone! It is big gesture on the Aussie channel in accepting their fault though they clearly stated that they had legal clearance before playing this prank!

Promising to donate nearly 3crores as benefit is a very big gesture and should do well for the welfare of the family's financial future!!

Whoever says what is the use of the money are hypocrites. What other thing than monetary compensation can be given in return for an accidental death??? Just compare of the 1000s of clear cut abetment to suicide cases taking place in India and what compensation the next of kin gets, not even a single paisa?

AV, Mangalore/Doha

DEAR Dinesh Shetty, Mumbai
IT IS UTTERLY FOOLISH TO COMPARE AUSTRALIA TO INDIA. THEY DONT HAVE BJP/RSS/BD/RS ETC TO THREATEN SOCIETY AND KINDLE THE FLAME OF HATRED. THE LAW SYSTEM IS EXTREMELY EFFICIENT. THE POST RETIREMENT BENEFITS ARE SUPERB. THE TAX IS REPAYED TO YOU IN THE FORM OF SERVICES EITHER IN MEDICAL OR POST RETIREMENT. THE STANDARD OF LIVING IN MUCH MUCH HIGHER THAN INDIA. I AM SURE IF YOU GOT A JOB OPPORTUNITY THERE YOU WOULD INSTANTLY JUMP.. NOW WHEN YOU ARE IN INDIA THE GRAPES ARE SOUR (i.e the statement "we live as 3rd class citizens")!! THE TRUTH CAN BE BITTER.

Wednesday, December 12, 2012

I agree with Mr.M.Dsouza. The Hospital authorities need to be investigated by the Scotland Yard or any other international investigating team. There is a lot of truth which is hidden and needs to be opened up with the true answers. In my view, this is a " forced suicide ".

In the west, we Indians are treated like 3rd class citizens. Yet we want to go there and get humilated by the "white class".Even today, people are rushing to settle down in Australia. For what ? To be thrashed and humilated ?

My heart is with the Barboza / Saldanha families. No compensation can overcome this grief. May Jacintha's soul Rest In Peace.

Dear Blaan,
I appreciate your views and comments. I have lived and worked in UK for 2 years. I know exactly how the people of different color are treated. I myself was a victim of insult/ill treatment by the senior physician. I was humiliated and insulted by a influential Cardiologist after a band was depressed and could not go back to work for nearly 2 weeks. My Indian colleagues closed their eyes. I remember a doctor from Pakistan was the only one who came to visit and consoled/guided. TIhe employee health which was meant to help , did nothing. After few weeks during the Christmas I got a Christmas card...stating "You Paki Baxxxrd.I am watching you" I gave the card to the police and they did nothing. By Gods grace, I could find a opening in USA and moved on. My wife was with me all the time to support.

I have great respect for Mangalorean nurses especially those from Fr Mullers. They are extraordinary and the best in the world. Tears roll when I read the comments here and when I look at the photograph of Ben and children. It is a joke that the hospital which treats royals does not have the funds to pay for a receptionist/telephone operator.

Knowing the system very well, I have no doubt, the nursing supervisor/director or law and order personnel have grilled Jacintha and insulted/threatened/humiliated her. The hospita l will not reveal what happened behind the closed doors. For them there was no value for Jacinthas life or her family. Memorial fund is a eyewash. DJs are to be blamed for starting this tragic event but it is the hospital management which made the situation worse. Will the British government appoint an independent commission to investigate the hospital management? I will not be surprised if the alleged suicide note was made to be written by force.

Condolences to Ben, Junal and Lisha. May Lord Jesus grant you the strength. We all are with you in prayers. We know how you feel. Millions of dollars or pounds will not bring the justice. Prayers will.

Does it mean giving as compensation of about Rs.2.70 crores would bring back the lost life. money is nothing here. Its only a consolation for the family. nobody can replace Jacintha by way of giving money like this. Human life is precious which cannot be measured in terms of crores. One cannot evaluate human life.

Jacintha Saldanha was smart and wrote the letter to her husband and posted it so that nobody can hide it or tamper it. The hospital Management have traumatized Jacintha and must have humiliated her or threatened her and that is the reason she used traditional way of communication.

Money may help to meet the daily expenses but, Mother is everything in life. If there is no money a good mother will not leave her children because there is no money. We lived with very small amount of salary of our father so as our inlaws family who were 10 children and who were very poor and today they are Engineers, and in excellent positions in very good Cos.only with their mother's guidance. Money is required but it cannot buy a mother.

Duchess of Cambridge hoax call: nurse Jacintha Saldanha wrote 'suicide note' before killing herself
A nurse at the Duchess of Cambridge’s hospital who killed herself after being the victim of a hoax wrote note to her family before she died, it has emerged.

Blaan Mendonca, USA
Wednesday, December 12, 2012

New reports claim Jacintha Saldanha, the hospital nurse who was pranked by two Australian DJs while caring for pregnant Kate Middleton, left a suicide note behind before taking her own life late last week.
London's Evening Standard reported Tuesday that Saldanha, 46, wrote the letter to husband Ben Barboza and their two children, Junal, 17, and Lisha, 14. But her family is still seeking answers over the circumstances of her death.
The nurse who apparently took her own life following the royal hoax call scandal left a note for her family, it emerged yesterday.
Jacintha Saldanha had not told her husband or children that she was involved in the incident, meaning the letter may provide their only clue to what prompted the respected nurse to take such a drastic and tragic step.
Family spokesman, Labour MP Keith Vaz, said yesterday Mrs Saldanha's family were demanding answers from the hospital about the circumstances that led to her death.
Although bosses at the hospital in Marylebone have said they will conduct internal inquiries, the nurse's family – husband Ben Barboza, 49, and children Junal, 17, and Lisha, 14 – 'want to know everything'.

The life of Jacintha Saldanha is more Worthy than US$525,000. What are you people thinking. That money she can earn in 5 years period of time as a Nurse. The retirement age is 65 yrs in United Kingdom. What about her service, pension, social insurance, social security.

And what about the love the kids and her husband has lost. Can anyone of you who are talking about money can buy the kids Biological mother or provide that mother's love to the kids, What about Jacintha Saldanha's life. What about the lives she has saved and done good to the community and society of India, Muscat-Oman, United Kingdom. Can you all count and pay for the service she has done. Service cannot be calculated by money. Pay check and benefits is just an amount paid for the living. Money cannot buy everything but it can only save life. If money was everything in life then why can't we exchange our mother for money. Once your mother is no more then you can never call anyone in this world as your Mom. This is the greatest word on earth a child calls as soon as he or she learns to speak. people here who are arguing about the money please do not worry about the kids education and their future life. They will have everything but what about their mother who will guide them, encourage them, teach them, train them, love them, and respect them and provide comfort to them. The kids will miss all these things that are important to them when they are growing. Mother is first to everyone on earth than God. It is the mother who teaches them about God and discipline them in the life of the children.

It's very unfortunate that Jacintha Saldanha had to die due to a prank call and the compensation given to her family can never bring their loved one back, But what is most disturbing to me is the fact she took her life over a prank phone call. It was just a prank call and Iam sure she could have handled the situation with the help of the hospital authorities with dignity because it was not her fault. Human life is too precious to be lost because of someone else's stupid actions. failures or errors are part of life, we need to learn how to overcome them and not run away from them. Life is a balance of joys and sorrows, no 1 person will have only joys or only sorrows in his/her life. Everyone has their share of joys and sorrows, and this balance is what makes us realize that the greatest gift all of us have is 'The gift of life'.

In my place if any American, European dies, killed or suicide there is high level investigation. Everywhere Police inquiries, road blocks. An Asian dies like a kutha mara jaisa, low level investigation. Unqualified egyptian doctor will make post mortom. Comphensations will be minimum to maximum 2-15 thousand Saudi Riyals (INR28,000 – 215,000). Indian government is far better than KSA. Sanctions immidiate comphensation of 2 Lakshs to 5 Lakhs.

Money will not bring back JS so also any Harrowing legal victory to bring to books those responsible for her suicide.
Children may be depending partly on their mother's income for their education etc.
As such, minimum amount that is guaranteed and more if there are more contributions to that fund, will definitely help those children and other dependents.

If taken legal action - it will take so long, so many problems, so much expense and Lawyers fee etc.
Not at all sure to win the case.

I think, better to take what is offered.

May her soul RIP

Humans make mistakes in life, be it intentionally like this prank call or unintentionally, but accepting having done one looks like a good gesture. The monetary compensation of half a million dollars and cancellation of radio events are irrelevant, nevertheless shows how regretful the radio channel feels about this whole episode.

Mel Greig and Michael Christian have already received enough criticism worldwide from all walks of life and have also been kicked out of the radio channel, I doubt if any channel will ever hire them after these events, such being the circumstances we don’t wanna see Mel Greig and Michael Christian take the same step of suicide what Jacinta had chosen.

I feel people should forgive Mel and Michael and let them live again coz everyone deserves a second chance.

A simple search on Google Video with Prank as the keyword generates 171 Million results, does that mean all those 171 Million people are dead, because someone staged a prank on them, of course no they are alive, and enjoy every second of their life which has been gifted to them by god.

I am sure Jacinta Saldanha was going a difficult phase in her personal life and to make things worse the Prank call followed by criticism from the hospital management and her family may have left Jacinta with no other option, but Die!!!!!

There are a million reasons to die, but you need atleast one reason to live. I wish there was someone to give Jacinta that one reason to live!

Henry Misquith the RJs were the pawns. There are bigwigs involved in this who were to profit from this. That is why they are offering a bribe of half million dollars while they are raking in millions. Have you heard the word Illuminati? There definitely is foul play! Don't believe me? Its really sad about the death of Jacintha. But on the other side we have to appreciate the quick response and reaction in paying compensation. Our Bhopal Victims are still struggling for one rupee after decades and numerous court battles and legal hassles with government, beauracracy etc.
