The lecture was delivered by Justice Markandey Katju, retired judge of Supreme Court and chairman of the Press Council of India.

Delivering the lecture, Katju said that India's Constituition had been based on western concepts when it was formulated and a secular, backward country like India could not handle it. India is a vast country with different religions languages and culture, yet all through it has managed to maintain a secular yet diversified system. The current system needs to be modernized a bit so that the country can be presented to the world as a powerful entity, said Justice Katju.
