Mangalore: Police Bust Major Forgery Racket, Arrest Two Including Model-actor

Mangalore, Nov 8: Police have arrested two persons in connection with a major forgery racket wherein students were sold fake certificates by the accused.
Addressing a press meet here on Thursday November 8, city police commissioner Manish Karbikar said that Mohammed Shahid, resident of Vazhakkad in Kerala and Avinash Shetty of Suratkal were arrested on charges of forging school and degree certificates in return for money.

City crime branch inspector Venkatesh Prasanna said that Avinash Shetty is an MBA and also a model who has acted in a Kannada movie. The two may have links with their counterparts in Kerala and the Kerala police are investigating the same, he said.
Shahid and Avinash, who ran their business under the names of Dreams Career and also Navabharat Education and Research Foundation, have duped hundreds of students by claiming themselves to be affiliated to universities around the country. The two would approach students with the promise of providing degree certificates for a certain fee and give them fake certificates within 30 days.
The educational boards and universities whose certificates they forged were Dr B R Ambedkar Universityersity, Agra, Chhattisgarh University, Dr C V Raman University, Bilaspur, SSCL Board, Karnataka, Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut, Bharatiya Shiksha Parishat, UP, Jamia Millia University, Sikkim, Central Board of Open School Education, Meerut, Vinayaka Mission University, New Delhi, STED Council, Thiruvananthapuram, EIILM University, UP and CMJ University, UP.
They also provided fake migration certificates to students.
Interestingly, the two have been running this business for the past ten years. For each certificate they would charge between Rs 30,000 to 1,20,000, depending on the course. Their fee was fixed as below:
Diploma (three year course) - Rs 40,000
Degree - Rs 45,000
MBA - Rs 50, 000 / Rs 1,20,000
BTech - Rs 60,000
BCom and BSc - Rs 75,000
BBM, BBA, BCA - Rs 80,000
Post graduate courses - Rs 95,000
Delhi PUC - 80,000
SSLC - 60,000
Each of them was arrested from the offices of Dream Career in Bendorewell and Navabharat Education Research Foundationin M G Road here.
The police commissioner said that universities and boards were contacted and it was found that none of them had any affiliation to the firms, contrary to the claims made by the duo.
Police have seized more than 70 certificates, including those of 50 students, two computers, eight mobile phones, Rs one lac in cash, credit cards, two laptops, a scanner, and a colour printer from the duo.
They have been booked under sections 468, 471 and 420 of the Indian Penal Code.
Police commissioner Manish Karbikar, DCP Mutturaya, DCP Dharmaiah were present at the press meet.
