Team Mangalore Shines at International Kite Festival in France

Mangalore, Sep 22: Team Mangalore, the city-based hobby group of kite flyers, participated in the 17th International Kite Festival held from September 7 to September 16 at Dieppe, France as representatives from India.

The team consisting of Sarvesh Rao, Dinesh Holla, Satish Rao, Shashank Shetty and Pran Hegde showcased some of the best kites to the people of France and kitists of International fame who had participated in the event. Kite flyers over 40 countries participated in this event.

Team Mangalore kites such as Kathakali, Yakshagana,Gajaraja, Avatar Bird, Charlie, Owl, Deer, Pushpaka Vimana and the new creation “Garuda” won appreciation from the people of France and fellow kite flyers from rest of the world. People from all age groups enjoyed this Festival.

The team conducted workshops for the children to make Indian Fighter kites. Team also distributed some kites to the children free of cost. The team spread culture by distributing Bindi’s to women and lapel pins to kids. The team participated in the Grand Parade wearing traditional Indian Kurta and attracted the gathering.

“Graywings”, an exhibition of Line Art sketches of Dinesh Holla, artist and designer of kites of Team Mangalore attracted huge crowd and was appreciated by the organisers and the public who visited the exhibition stand. This exhibition was an added feature to the festival.

Earlier ,Team Mangalore had participated in various International Kite Festivals held at Canada, UK, France, Thailand, Korea, Sri Lanka and recently it had participated in the International Kite Festival held at Cervia, Italy. This time the team had created two kites “GARUDA” and the theme kite of the festival “ The Five Elements” and got accolades from the people of France.

In all the team has once again showcased cultural heritage of India on the shores of Dieppe, France.

The team is all set to organise yet another edition of International Kite Festival in January, 2014. The team had notified this at the Dieppe and the response for the festival of Mangalore was very impressive and many kite flyers of International fame have expressed their willingness to participate in the event and team is looking forward for Mega sponsor to make this event happen in Mangalore.
