Kuwait, Sep 22: After a nail-biting Kuwait semi-final contest for the coveted title of 'Gulf Voice of Mangalore - Season 3', Konkani world's topmost reality show, Lavina D'Souza and Orson D'Souza have qualified for the finals. The semi-final was held at American International School here on Friday September 21 evening.

The semi-final was organized by the founder of 'Gulf Voice of Mangalore' Youth Recreation Centre (Rising Stars).

The programme started with a bang, with the raising of the curtain accompanied by music, glittering lights and a screaming crowd.

Compere of the day Uttam Menezes, a well-known host from Dubai, appeared on the stage and introduced Gulf Voice of Mangalore, followed by theme music played by Kiran and his team.

The event was inaugurated symbolically, by lighting candles, by Kuwait entrepreneur John Paul Fernandes and Daijiworld chief Walter Nandalike along with the organizing committee members Lawrence Pinto, Louis Rodrigues, Rita Rodrigues and Wilson Saldanha.

A prayer dance in Bharatanatyam form was performed by Sonal D’Souza.

All the semi-finalists were called on to the stage, escorted by beautiful girls in the order of their performance. Judges of the day Adrian Gomes, Babita D’Sa and Ivan Sequeira were also escorted to the stage.

In his welcome address president Lawrence Pinto welcomed the audience and thanked the sponsors and supporters. The contest session was conducted by compere of the day Uttam Menezes under a tough and exciting atmosphere where all the semifinalists did their best to qualify for the finals. Cute kids of ‘Desi Strikers’ gave a mesmerizing and funny dance performance to Babita’s song "Novro Mello Ghatagaar".

Walter Nandalike, founder of Mangalore-based website www.daijiword.com was honored with bouquets and mementos by the organizers for his continuous support to the event from its existence since 2008.  Later Walter felicitated the judges Ivan Sequeira, Babita D’Sa and Adrian Gomes.  Wilson Saldanha felicitated the musicians of the day Kiran Gonsalves (leader - Keyboard), Ronald Rodrigues (drums), Joy Fernandes (rhythm guitar), Kiran Sunny (bass guitar), Jackson D’Souza (lead guitar) and Prashantha Pais (violin).

Walter Nandalike spoke a few words on the event and it’s success in the Gulf.

Finally the suspense was broken with the announcement of the winners.   Lavina D'Souza and Orson D'Souza were declared finalists after some anxious moments, and the announcement was welcomed with a huge round of applause and cheer from the audience. They were decorated with sashes and presented with flowers and trophies by organizer Lawrence Pinto, Louis Rodrigues and Walter Nandalike.

Congratulations Orson & Lavina Weldone. All the best for Finals. Rib Tickling Jokes were well presented by Jerry & Joseph. It was tough Competiton but Judges have given a fair judgement.Ace singers Ivan, Babitha, Joylene & Gladys Lorena performed well and won the hearts of audiences with their beautiful voices. Kiran and team gave a beautiful music thus encouraged all the singers and audiences. It was a worth listening as well. Little one's Dance was foot tapping. Uttam was good(Uttam) on stage and felt is localite as he call out names of number of sponsors, participants, singers, joke artists, Musicians etc without looking at the paper, his way of presenting, questionaire, expressing views on GVOM welcoming and the order of the events well prepared and mesmerized all konkannis in Kuwait. His modality was too good. Walter Nandalike well said about good sense of generosity of Mangaloreans when someone in need and the bad part is, finds difficult to accept the failure when it comes to any competitions rather blame the Judges or organizers. I appreciate Walter Nandalike's views and slaute his sensibility. My Kudos goes to all the four members of the organizing committee Lawrence Pinto, Louis Rodrigues, Wilson Saldanha & Rita Rodrigues. Keep it up.

First of all hat's off to Orson and Lavina. I have kept two more hats safely for you both for 19th Oct!!! Meanwhile, when it comes to organizing events of this kind ... KUWAIT REALLY ROCKS!!! After carefully watching and participating in Mangalorean community events all over the GCC, I stress this a million times "KUWAIT IS THE BEST TO HOST MEGA EVENTS" for our community! The amazing attention to detail work executed by Kuwait-based Mangalorean organizers is certainly something the rest of GCC Mangalorean community must learn from!

Events like GVOM, events from KCWA, from AAK, from SACAA, from Ballerines, etc. are simply matchless elsewhere in the GCC! For now and since all focus of Mangalorean community around the world is on GVOM ... with all my heart 'All the best MCA Qatar' for the finals ... !!!

Well we had an interesting semi-finals in Kuwait. Though in female section we had good voices and Lavina was the choice due to her superior voice. In male section only 50% had quality voices, . The early exit of quality voices was evident yesterday. Anyhow good luck to Orson and Lavina. I feel Orson still has to improve on clarity of words as he is not a fluent konkani speaker. I felt Rilson missed out narrowly on lower singing notes and Roshan on the song selection.

The show was neatly organized. I liked the sound system as this is the only association who gives importance to sound, obviously due to singing reason. Uttam did well in his work. The stage background letters were not properly aligned and positioned. The slide show screens were of poor picture quality as it was blurred and dull colours. Liked the voices of Ivan and Babitha and local artists. Nice to see Jerry and Duje with their short n sweet and clean jokes. Overall a good programme. Let us wait for the finals.
