Udupi, Sep 20: Udupi city came to a standstill on Thursday September 20 with people voluntarily supporting the bandh called by the NDA and other parties against the recent hike in diesel and introduction of FDI.

As holiday was not declared in advance, students had to return home after going to their schools and colleges.

Tight security is been provided across the city and commercial vehicles including private and KSRTC buses chose not to descend on the roads.

All shops across the city are voluntarily closed and have chosen not to open their shutters till 6 pm to back the bandh.

A large number of daily workers travelling to other places were stranded at the city bus stand as they could not find any transport.

Government offices too witnessed less attendance.

Kallianpur is a place of educated people and a part of Udupi, Jayaprkash Hegde's native, they can defeat JP and they can lift JP so Kallianpurians does not need to be educated by others, we have enough highly recommended institutions runned by Christians, Muslims and Hindus.

FDI need for the development of india.because our indian retailers cheating farmers and customers and even they don't pay good salary and other benefit to the employee.so even in Road construction should given to these people otherwise our road will be like above pictures.

The problem with BJP is they do not want to Work. In Parliament they walk out every day and now they want everyone to stay at home and protest. Does this party have the guts to call for a “NO CONFIDENCE MOTION” and face elections?

Venzil, you really sound like a learned person. Uneducated people only appreciate & admire things like 'Strikes' & 'Bandh'. People who understand the word 'National Economy' will never utter such nonsense words.
This does't mean i am in favour of rise in diesel,LPG prises. I also feel the pinch what Aam Admi has to go through. But, bandh is a foolish action. There are certain things (decision on national Economy) which is beyond ordinery people's grasp. They can only pretest,go on strike, destroy their own property & ACHIVE NOTHING.

Without these long delayed necessary reforms the Indian Rupee is going to get even weaker and the price of oil & other imports in rupee terms higher. This will lead to all of us will becoming poorer, but many politicians irrespective of party will continue to loot and get richer. Most politicians think that looting the Country’s natural and other resources is their birth right. This bandh is just dirty politics, anti national and anti poor.

Ravi Hemmady, Barkur, Muscat

This Bharat Bandh called by BJP for price riseing of oil products.By calling Bharath bandh nation must have lost thousands of corers rupees for this who will be resposibility.Ok let Bjp promise nation that if they are elected they will give petrol for 50 rs.and diesel for 40 rs.then let see whole India will back your party,by calling bandh your party is just fooling the people.

Jeevan stop blaming parties. Y cant you tell Yedurappa, Reddy Bros & Jagdish Shetty. What they did? Do you know what difficulties common people are facing with this bundh? How much loss for the country? How many patients will die? Common people are struggling and earning their bread fairly with hard work. BJP who d India Bundh are enjoying everything from the Govt. and they only bark & fight like dogs and loot the country along with Congress & others.

UPA/Congis spends Rs 100 crore for image makeover with 'Bharat Nirman' advt. Do you have any image left to make over ? WHY Do spend tax payer money for your lust of power. QUIT QUIT OTHERWISE WE WILL MARCH TO DELHI THROW OUT FROM REDFORT.. AND THAT DAY IS NOT FAR..

Rudolf, Mangalore
Thursday, September 20, 2012

UPA has emptied nation's treasure by scams/looting and therefore hiking the petrol price and allowing the FDI on retails, putting people in trouble. UPA has no moral rights to continue Govt. Prime Minister is helpless and dancing to the tunes of Sonia and other ministers. 2 years back petrol price was 52 Rs. Within 2 years, petrol price has risen up more than 50% which is not in proportion to international fuel price raise. It is recommended to dissolve UPA Govt and go for fresh mandate. Moreover our PM is getting blame from all over world.

This is called peacfull protest. Not creating rukus, buringin buildings, tampering & dishounoring memorials, killing people. So its all in the intention weather you intend to peacefully protest against any injustice, you you just want to create any law & order problem and communal disharmony.

Who is going to benifit from this kind of strike?, its just getting trouble to comman man of india and poor who work daily wages to support there family, this strike gives hard time to patient and commuters, damaging indian economy, there is lot of other ways to protest any policy of govt.

Vincy, Bangkok
Thursday, September 20, 2012

The people who protest here never protest for heavy hike on prices of beer and other liquor. The government have to hike the price to balance the import of crude. But people do not have knowledge about from where deisel comes to India.
