Kasargod: Body of 15-year-old Puttur Girl Found at Manjeshwar

Stephan Kayyar
Daijiworld Media Network – Kasargod (VM)

Kasargod, Sep 4: The body of a girl from Puttur, who had allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the Panemangalore bridge near Mangalore on August 27, was found at Manjeshwar shore on Monday September 3 evening.

The deceased has been identified as Sonali Patel, daughter of Ashwin and Alfa Patel of Mohan Compound, Krishnanagar, Puttur. She was a class 10 student at Sudan school in Puttur.

It is learnt that on August 27 Sonali had jumped from Panemangalore old bridge in Bantwal. On the day of the incident, as tide was high, rescue efforts by the fire personnel and the locals failed to locate the body.

On Monday evening, more than a week after the incident, the body was washed ashore at Manjeshwar. The locals spotted the body which was in a decomposed state and informed Manjeshwar police.

The body was taken to Mangalpady health center for post-mortem and later handed over to the family member who recognized it.

Sonali and her siblings Pragati and Sujal used to come back from school together by auto rickshaw. All of the were studying in the same school at Nehru Nagar in Puttur. Sources said that on August 27 she refused to go home by auto and informed that she has to go to Mangala store.

However, Sonali went to Panemangalore bridge from where she jumped. It is said that Sonali was poor in Mathematics and for this reason the teacher had warned her. Dejected at this, Sonali may have taken the extreme step, sources said.

The family originally hails from Gujarat and has been residing in Puttur for the past ten years.

Now-a-days teenagers/youngsters are not taking advise in a positive way. Teachers/parents have to be very very careful while dealing with teenagers/youngsters> Live example is the suicide case of lovely girl Sonali Patel. What the parents must be going through after loosing thier little angel.May the departed soul of Sonali rest in peace. Heart felt condolences to the parents/teachers of Sudana High School, Puttur.

Fear of Maths and Science driving students to commit suicide is nothing new. It is because of the way these subjects are taught in the Indian curiculum. Maths teachers are the most feared one's because they are robots that dont have any feelings. The text books and syllabus for that matter are also vague. You need to first learn rocket science in order to understand these books. It took me a full 6 years of schooling to understand how if the earth was round the people at the bottom wouldn't fall off, because the teacher made a sarcastic remark when I asked him. The truth is, the teachers themselves dont understand these subjects. They work for salary and wouldn't care about children's curiosity or their confusion.

I agree with h.d.souza valencia.i too studied in one of the convent school in Mangalore. How much the used to like the rich people and they used to insult the poor children it is still fresh in my mind. For the kids parents play important role at home and in the school teachers, nuns priest etc.encourage the child if a child in a particular subject not doing ok give moral support and lods of hugs and love.No one wants to die young everyone wants to taste the fun of life.RIP Sonali u r with god.

Most of us have experienced in our school life, teachers dont explain weak students properly other than that they humiliate and punish, Hope this incident will open all teachers eyes. Its sad that we lost her.

Our deepest heart felt sympathies to their parents and family.
We are sorry.
may her soul rest in peace.
Now a s a eye opener- maths is not like by all including myself,i was not good but it is time for the Parents at home -teachers at school to check the progress on daily basis regularly -if the first lesson is not understood then second and third will never be understood thus failure in exams.
Time for teacher and parents with students have regular meetings- Teacher should teach in such away that the subject is well understood by all- if any difficulty then help solve on same day calling them on the stage to solve ,students should regularly practice the difficult subjects till understood at times coaching classes would help.
Even bright students -friends should help their fellow mates.
Teaching methods should be evolved to make it simple to understand from day one. Its the skill and passion of the teacher .
Children-students should have assignments on regular basis.
Like in USA Students should assess and recommend plus and negative of the teachers officially for promotion- improvement or even sacking.
It should be on line
Education is nothing but acquiring knowledge .
Focus and attention is very important..
If need be introduce YOGAS for mind control.
If the student is not fairing well then invite the parents and understand the domestic situation as well ,idea is the student-the child should understand the subject and score good marks and make everyone happy with good results.
work is worship.

RIP Sonali Patel!!

Suicidal ideation is a very sudden and intense emotion which can happen to any human being depending on the gravity of the situation/circumstances!! It has happened to me and I know what it is, it cannot be explained in words, ONE HAS TO EXPERIENCE IT!!!! This is inbuilt in our system/wiring, but we have to know how to catch the initial symptoms and take corrective action emergently!!

Forget us, even animals, too, experience a profound feeling of sadness when their play/hunt/sex partner dies. Those studying the behavior of wild and domestic animals come with an increasing number of cases proving that animals are capable of pure sorrow when they lose someone close to them. Somehow, this behavior is linked to self-conscience, thus only "brainy" animals, like mammals and some birds, consciously commit suicide.

FOR ME IT IS A VERY BIG MYSTERY!!!!

mr.chinnu noone can get back the dead ones but before taking such a silly step of only being warned by the the teacher for being weak in studies.just she could have thought about her parents who have done so much good for her by bringing to this world.if she had a little concern about them she wouldn't have done this.

Karnataka publishes 'Padavi Poorva Shikshana Chintana' Pre-University Education. Similarly ‘All India Board of the High School & Pre-University Education’ should Publish Quarterly magazine, along with academic input for students and teachers. In this magazine they should publish the technic of teaching and how to improvise the result. Reputed academicians should contribute articles to this magazine on over all development of any weak students, how to overcome exams, how parent should act to the disturbed students with low result etc. The teachers should encourage students with poor marks and also send them to one of their colleague who is good at counseling. The counselor should advice them learning techniques as well as give them aptitude test to find out their field of interest. There should be a common forum for interaction among such students, teachers and the Department to overcome their fear.
Few students who are very active in many field but they struggle mightily in school syllabus. And few others may have suffered from an illness during childhood which apparently caused some mild brain damage. The overall IQ of few students is 85 but the processing speed is only 72 and such students may have great memory but needs to take things slow to understand them. There are students with special gift for working with children and wants to be a guidance counselor which may be beyond their reach. In all these cases the teachers are their guide and philosopher who should not let them down.

Dear Nagesh Nayak,

Your 100% right. Youth should wear cloths which covers full body especially girls to safe guarding from modesty. And parents need to have watch on the teenager's activities.

Very strange from Sonali Patel,
I look at life as a gift of God. Now that he wants it back I have no right to complain. She should not have taken her life, although she is not good in mathematics or whatever the reason, life is to live and not to take away.
Life is a gift, and it offers us the privilege, opportunity, and responsibility to give something back by becoming more. The most important of life’s battles is the one we fight daily in the silent chambers of the soul.It is by going down into the abyss that we recover the treasures of life. Where you stumble, there lies your treasure.

May her soul rest in peace

VERY VERY SAD NEWS.

YOUNGSTERS ARE OPTING FOR SUICIDE EVEN FOR A SMALL ISUUES.

I STILL HAVE A DOUBT THAT POOR IN MATHAMATICS IS NOT THE CAUSE FOR SUICIDE.

SOMETHING ELSE MAY BE THE REASON.

NOWADAYS YOUNGSTERS ARE ADDICTED TO MOBILE, INTERNET , TELEVISION ETC...

YOUNGSTERS ARE SHOWING MORE INTEREST IN WATCHING TELEVISION, CHATTING , SURFING , JOINING SOCIAL NETWORK IN INTERNET, SENDING SMS, MMS IN MOBILE THAN THEIR ACTUAL SCHOOL STUDIES.

MOST OF THE PARENTS DO NOT TAKE SERIOUS & BOAST THEIR CHIDRENS ABOUT THEIR FACEBOOK ACCOUNT, TWITTER , HANDLING MOBILES ETC....

TEENAGE ATTRACTS EVERYTHING IF NOT IN PROPER CONTROL.

I HAVE SEEN TEENAGE BOYS & GIRLS ARE DISCUSSING ABOUT ... THEY WATCHED IN INTERNET. THEY TELL GO TO GOOGLE & TYPE ... YOU WILL GET WHAT YOU EANT.

INTERNET IS THE MOST DANGEROUS IN THE HANDS OF TEEN AGE IF NOT CONTROLLED PROPERLY.

NOWADAYS LOVE AFFAIR STARTS EVEN @ HIGHSCHOOL LEVEL.

LIFESTYLE ALSO MATTERS A LOT . IF SOME OF HIS/HER FRIEND /PICK UP IN CAR FROM THE GATE OF SCHOOL EFFECT MENTALLY TO OTHER FELLOW .

THERE IS A LOT OF ISSUES WHICH LED TO THE DESTINY OF SUICIDE.

Getting 100/100 in any subject does not mean that the child is intelligent. Many students who were weak in studies are in better positions today that those who were getting high marks. It is not the marks that matters. It is how an individual faces the situations.
So teachers please dont force students to study or warn. You just teach and go home.Rest of the work is for parents.Today parents are also equally responsible for childs growth. They should also spend time with children and dicuss about their study patterns and support them.

SAD.

My dear children if you fails in subject, life does not stops there. But don't fail in humanity or character wise.

Now a days it is extremely difficult even to advice anyone and especially teenage children. They not at all take in positive way. Some time even grownups also don't think twice to take drastic step.

If teacher had warned her, she should have taken it positive way and tried to score and she should have understood that.

The moment of time they decide and commit suicide and blame comes on the person who has advised or warned or who spoke to that person in those days.

But a precious life goes out of this world and the family has to suffer for that.

We do not know what made her to do this. But we are sure one thing that today, in our society we failed to transform ourselves into the modern and renewed mindset to pass it on to children vis-versa. Mr.Henry its not the fault of the teachers alone. After all these teachers are the products of the same education system. Here the education system has to changed. "SOCIETY IS THE BIGGEST UNIVERSITY.LETS ALL STOP GETTING EDUCATED IN THIS WRONG EDUCATION SYSTEM.THATZ THE ONLY SOLUTION.

She definitely looks like an angel, and am sure we can never comprehend the pain her parents and loved one will be going through now. This again reflects back to the stupid education system we have and we intend to cling on for the next few centuries. Marks percentage is the mantra, and to get that 99.346788 percent we force our children to kill themselves. It is time the government takes a decision to abandon the system and introduce something more tangible, for the overall development of the child. And I hope some stupid political party does not come up against such decision saying this is against our culture. May God give strength to her parents to go through this.

While qualification become social status in the.society, this kind of incidents common, parents should understand that many people living in the world without that much qualificatio so should not force the their children to become more wise than other, because every one not equal in everything,so if any their children not briallent in education should blame them, and they feel inferior and they try to this kind of extreme step.

mr.chinnu according to you nowadays teacher's cant advice good or bad with the fear of students committing suicide?infact students have become so impatient that even a little loud voice from elders they can't handle.the ultimate only thing in this universe for them is suicide.even our teacher's used to insult us for being weak in studies.we never threatened of commiting suicide , but worked hard for the subject and have reached good heights...

@chinnu, what is wrong in the telling the student that you are very week in maths, why cant the children take this comment in a spirit and learn more? accusing teachers all the time is not right, if so then why we need teachers in school if they have no minimum right to scold a child for its benifit? let the children learn throug internet, no one scold there.
