Udupi: Chaos Erupts After RTO Driver Assaults Private Bus Employee

Udupi, Aug 23: A clash between the private and RTO drivers led to a major chaos and disruption of bus services here on Thursday August 23 at sround 8:45 am.

An RTO jeep driver allegedly assaulted Ashok, the driver of a private bus after the latter tried to overtake from the wrong side near Kinnimulky.

It is said that the bus driver apologised to the RTO driver when the latter stopped him, but he was in no mood to accept the apology. He allegedly used foul words against Ashok, and in no time the argument snowballed into a full-fledged fight, resulting in the RTO driver assaulting the other driver.

All Udupi buses halted their services in protest for hours, causing tension among two different services and more so to the commuters.

Later higher officials of the police department interfered and resolved the matter amicably.

As per latest reports, bus services have resumed and are running as usual.

Assaulting a driver by a government employee is nor acceptable. Use law and fine him. Our RTO's are sitting and heating the seats. Start fining drivers for each and every mistake and at least earn your salary in a decent manner. These people never do that and instead assault as if they are the owners of the road..!!???In India for every wrongdoing they need their bribe and let them go. If this is the case when road safety will increase ...???May be never..???

LESLIE FERNANDEZ YOU WANT THE DRIVER TO BE GARLANDED ? HAVE YOU ANY BRAINS ? RTO DRIVER DID A RIGHT THING BY ASSULTING THE DRIVER. IF I WAS IN HIS PLACE OF RTO DRIVER, I WOULD HAVE SLAPPED THE PVT BUS DRIVER AND EVEN GIVEN HIM KICKS. HE SHOUL HAVE BEEN JAILED FOR 6 MONTHS. PRIVATE BUSES ARE ACTING AS THE ROADS BELONG TO THEM AND THEY CAN DRIVE ANYHOW AND PUT PUBLICS LIFE AT RISK. I THINK LESLIE YOU HAVE A CAR SO IT DOES NOT MATTER HOW THE DRIVER DRIVES AND WHERE HE DRIVES ?

Dear Ayub, I agree with your statement as a law abiding citizen.
Now tell me, you are driving your car with your family, you keep your speed with in limits, but the bus or lorry driver behind you is chasing you, you cannot give him way all of sudden but he wont wait, he will overtake you, by wrong side, putting your family and yourself in danger. What will be your reaction, if you happen to face him ? Do you go to RTO and complain ? I am sure, you will not. But you will also do the same, whats being done, though,we all agree it's wrong.
Yes I agree with your comments, "RTO to take action", Dear, if our officials are capable of controling these unruly public and we public cultivate the self discipline, this circumstance do not arise.

ASSAULTING A CITIZEN IS NOT ACCEPTABLE.
THERE MUST BE STRINGENT ACTION ON THE RTO DRIVER.
HOWEVER RULES ARE BROKEN EVERY NOW & THEN DUE TO HAFTA PAID TO THE DEPARTMENTS BY BUS COMPANIES.
DRIVERS & CONDUCTORS ARE GIVEN INVISIBLE ORDERS TO IMMEDIATELY RUN AWAY FROM THE SPOT IN THE EVENT OF ANY SERIOUS ACCIDENT (BOKKA NAMA TOOPA)

If there was space to overtake on wrong side, RTO driver must have been occupying the road at 20 km per hour. More often we find drivers occupying the "overtaking lane". In such case option for bus driver is to overtake from wrong lane.

Whatever the scene, it is always the poor general public are the sufferers or losers..in our system or democracy...Pathetic. In any case whether Right or Wrong, not to destabilise the basic services...rather only the association committee members to take the matter higher level..but as common people should not support such STOP /STRIKE acts.

Most of the bus drivers are rude in these areas. And even conductors are horrible. May be hitting the driver was wrong, but I still feel the RTO driver gave a lesson to the wrong doers..
In many express buses the conductors and drivers welcome the passengers but when they have to get down they abuse the passengers so badly.. they dont even spare the senior citizens... In those cases I myself feel like hitting the driver and the conductor for humilaiting the elders shamelessly..
Recently a guy in 2 wheeler was killed near kediyoor hotel as a express came in no entry!!!
Traffic and civic sense needed...

These are the good things to hear now a days. Law is there every where. But if some one breaks the law or does not follow, no one will speak up, rather would say law will take its own course of action to punish them. RTO driver has given the right treatment to the driver Ashok. Even if it is not the right lesson for all the rash drivers, at least driver Ashok will think twice in future before overtaking or miss using the road deciplines. In general, the bus drivers in Udupi/Mangalore are beyond control due to business compitition. They dont even care the lives of pedestarins, passengers & small vehicles.

Is that RTO driver SUPER COP?In Karnataka, there is a tendency of taking law in to their own hand.RTO driver is in fault. It is not his subject and he is simply driver, apart from that Private Bus driver already tendered his apology!!! .Should Private Bus driver had a thought in this regard the RTO driver could be sacked all together. He(RTO driver) know "ADHIKARA DA DARPA"The most corrupt department is RTO.

Bus drivers, autorikshaw drivers, bus conductors and also most of the traffic polices hardly no to speak in a decent language..they all r the same. they only no to abuse the public with foul languages. too bad.. both the driver n d rto driver should be booked for creating a nuisense n creating problem to the public.
traffic police jeep drivers are very very rask drivers, dy keep honking loudly and also has a liberty to park their jeep on the wrong side of the road n happily drink sugar cane juice.hahah this is wat i have seen in nellikai road, near state bank cirle mangalore

Thank god at least RTO driver did what RTO is supposed to do :)If these bus driver can dare to overtake a RTO vehicle from left then what better can we expect from these bus drivers and RTO.?

I do agree that the bus drivers are rash but the RTO driver has no right to physically assault the other bus drivers. It is very sad that RTO and other Police officials think that they have a right to beat anyone, anytime and anywhere. Sometimes they beat adults in front of children which is very humiliating.

Aubb, Kuwait

I disagree with Mohan, Mangalore.

RTO driver has no right to take law in his own hand.

Do we have RTO officials in Udupi that can book the bus driver (If he has broken the law?????)

This "RTO DRIVER" must be booked under the law too for causing public nuisance.

Mangalorean bus drivers not trained to Drive Bus properly,

First they start with Lorry Cleaner.

Second With Lorry Driver-no lane Discipline.

After 6 months to 1 year experiernce as a Lorry driver any Bus owner will give him Job as a PILOT.
After that he is governer, he can overtake any side,Honk anywhere,
FORCE SMALL Vehicle to give way and Force to small Vehicles to enter major Highway without checking left or right side because he is BIG BUS Governer is behind so he has to move further.

Tis is what happening in our DK Mangalore.

Only solution to PUT KSRTC buses everywhere with qualified drivers with a strict test and mobile allowed while drving.
This certainly can help to solve the problem.

Private bus drivers are in a hurry all the time. If there is ever a formula 1 (F1) race for bus drivers, i think our indian bus drivers will win hands down! A combination of speed , rash driving, loud honking and belching smoke is the mantra to win any race.
