Udupi, Aug 18: Young couples' fair was celebrated on the occasion of Simha Sankramana with utmost devotion at Sri Ananthpadmanabha Temple in Perdoor here on Friday August 17.

A large number of devotees visited the holy place despite heavy rains. Married couples from places like Mangalore, Udupi, Shimoga visited the temple to offer prayers.

In Perdoor Shree Ananthpadmanabha temple, Simha Sankramana is also known as 'Madhumakkala Jatre'. People believe that the name might have been derived from the fact that a large number of newly-married couples visit the temple seeking god’s blessing to start their married life.

It is a tradition for a newly-married woman who had been to her native place in Ashada, to return to her husband’s home in Simha month. The husband who takes his wife back to his home on Simha Sankramana gets Lord’s darshan before going home.

As per the information received by temple authorities, as many 50,000 bananas were offered during prayers.
