Dubai: Three Mangalore Passengers Arrested for Unruly Behaviour on AI Express

Special Correspondent
Daijiworld media Network - Dubai

Dubai, Aug 17 : Three passengers who boarded Air India Express at Mangalore Airport on Thursday August 16 night were handed over to Dubai security officials by Air India crew as soon as the plane landed at Dubai International Airport, terminal 2 in the early hours of Friday August 17.

Air India Express flight IX 813 carrying 180 passengers together with 10 infants took off at 10.45 pm on Thursday from Mangalore airport.

One of the passengers who was on board informed daijiworld that three men aged between 30-35 years started creating nuisance around 45 minutes after the flight took off. They were allegedly mibehaving with female cabin crew, demanding alcohol several times, using foul language with the crew and hurling abuses.

"It was totally an unacceptable behaviour from these young men who were seated in the 7th row A, B and C seats. They started arguing with the crew, using filthy language directly in their face. It was a pity to see these young men abusing the three air hostesses," said a passenger to daijiworld office in Dubai.

"They were desperate for alcohol, making repeated demands with the crew. I saw the crew  supply them with the allowed quota, but these people were demanding more."

"What we have experienced is the best service from the female staff... they were very patient and co-operative, but were helpless in front of those unruly men" the passenger said

A lady passenger who spoke to daijiworld over the phone, said that, "I felt ashamed to hear such bad words used by the three men at the air hostesses. I shouted at the men asking them to mind their language as many children and youngsters were seated around."

Another passenger told daijiworld, "I have never seen such rude behaviour from any passenger in my entire life. They must have taken the staff and other passengers for granted. Wonder what they thought of themselves. They must be put behind bars so that they will learn a lesson for life."

Upon the arrival of the flight at Dubai, the cabin crew informed the Dubai security officials, and all three men - Ganadhar Bhavani, Anish K Amith Kumar and Praveen Castelino have been taken into custody by the police for questioning.

"Not only the crew, but all other passengers were witness to the bad behaviour of the three men. When the security officials cross-checked with the other passengers, everyone complained about the three," said a passenger to daijiworld.

"Quite often, I have seen people blaming the pilot when there is harsh landing... we blame the cabin crew for poor service, the ground staff for not allowing excess luggage... for anything negative we blame the entire Air India Express or the government. In this case who can we blame? Many a time, the behaviour of passengers itself creates problem for everyone else," said A D'Souza who was also on board.

"Because of these three men, we had to go through lots of inconvenience. They caused trouble, and never allowed others to sleep. They kept on shouting, pressing bells and putting on lights. They should be banned for life from travelling by air," said an angry passenger.

"While landing the pilot made a clear announcement, the crew instructed the passengers to  tighten their seat belts, and everyone was waiting to land. But one of the three men got up and headed towards the toilet. When the cabin crew stopped him, he shouted at her in foul language...that hurt many who heard it. We really appreciate the courage and professionalism of the three cabin crew in handling these passengers."

It may be recalled that a couple of years back, a similar incident on board had forced the pilot to divert the flight to Mumbai airport. After disembarking three troublesome passengers, the flight took off to Dubai.

Daijiworld tried contacting Air India Dubai office, but no one was available as it is Friday and hence a weekend holiday.

In the air, this kind of behavior that also for drinks, unforgivable.

For disturbing the peace of the co-passengers, I think they need to be thrown down from 37,000 feet above with the liquor of their choice tied to their necks.

Rest of the people will learn from this lesson.

With all aircraft having auto-pilot, why not the pilot engage it and join people in having a drink? Or even better, invite them over to the cockpit and have a nip too many? (Airbus will have to seriously increase the size of the cockpit to do that!).

I remember long back, one of my friend's sister who was an airhostess in Air India once told me that among the GCC countries the best and the most well behaved and decent passengers are those travelling to/from Kuwait. The worst are those from Dubai and Saudi Arabia. I don't know why she said this in the course of our normal conversation. I thought it was just an exaggeration or flattery since I am a resident in Kuwait. But now it seems what she said years back holds true even today.

excuse me Mr. Braganza...maybe you should be the air hostess next time!
From a vitla girl to all those bewdas...get lost.-Christina Vittla..

What exactly you are trying to say Christina? Just because of these three passengers, you are calling all those who drink as bewdas and are you telling them to get lost? Who gave you the authority? And remember one thing. All those who drink are not bad as you think. I drink but I maintain my limit and I don't overact if I drink. What about those crimes which are committed without the influence of alcohol namely prostitution, terrorism, rape and lust? Do you have any answers? Don't comment just for the sake of commenting. Don't act like a frog in the well. Come out of the well and see the world and the reality.

I know one of the British chap was arrested for same type of misbehavior when he traveled from Hong Kong to Bahrain but the flight was stopping over in Dubai and Cathay staff informed the police and he was arrested in Dubai and he was sentenced to 21 days prison. Even the Englishman was not spared for such punishment you think these guys will be spared no way.. Hello boys think before you get drunk.

We normally blame Air craft management for their poor service, But it is not fair to shout on cabin crew, since they also doing their duties, working away from their home....This is a pure influence of alcohol..please stop alcohol on board. Once you land you will get both destinations have unlimited alcohol......

I am glad that the AirIndia Express Crew handed over these three Gents to Dubai police and I hope the resulting punishments would deter others from resorting to similar behaviour.Few Indians behave in this manner in our own national Airlines thinking they can get away with anything just As we Indians behave within our country misusing democratic politicalsyatem.Do These three guys behaved in similar fashion with another airline and their female crew? In have witnessed several instances and I always admire Air India Express crew for their professional approach. There is nothing wrong in serving liquor, all airlines serve liquor and Air India eXpress will lose competetiv edge.It would be great ideaif all airlines"blacklist " these guys from travelling on their aircrafts.

These incidents have been happening every time when I travel thru Air India Express to M'lore. Few well dressed young men & boys are acting like monkeys & cats just for alchohal and even they harass and misbehave with the airhostesses. They should be jailed atleast for 15 days.

Roshan Braganza, Udayavar/Mumbai.
It was amusing to read your comments. Perhaps you have never travelled in an aircraft or you have very limited knowledge of safety and security of passengers travelling by Air. No doubt, the accused were the customers but they had absolutely no right to disregard the safety guidelines and misbehave with crew. Such passengers are not only nuisance but also security threat to others. You cannot imagine the agony the other passengers if the pilot had to divert plane for emergency landing for offloading these hooligans, had the situation gone out of control. Hat’s of the cabin crew for handling these rogues in a professional manner until the plane landed safely in Dubai. Therefore, please do not support such behavior in the name of “customer rights”. We should be always with law and support what is right and just.

Roshan Braganza, Udyavar / Bombay......In a Aircraft one has to eat and drink what they give and sleep. Aircraft crew are not your private servants to give whatever you want, It has a limited supply and quota. Even then crew will satisfy the customers most of the needs....If ones needs are beyond their capacity and if they create a scene in the aircraft, then this kind of treatment is good. Remember the crew has to ake care of 200 odd passengers in three hours..!!!???

Ayes P, Mangalore/KSA
Saturday, August 18, 2012

The main reason for misbehaving these passengers with cabin crew is ALCOHOL. All airlines from Indian origin should ban the alcohol in the flights, just for 3 hours of journey why these airlines are providing ALCOHOL. Some of the cheap Indian passenger gets the ALCOHOL then they thinks that they are the TIGERS. Once I was travelling from Bahrain to Mumbai by Jet airways 2 passengers were besides me are drunk as per their quota at the time of dinner but frequently they are demanding ALCOHOL and pickle and drinking but myself and some of the passengers from same row and front and back row were suffocated. Its very difficult to sit besides the drunk passengers. So Airlines should understand.

Friday, August 17, 2012

These three idiots should be made to spend their life in jails in Dubai and not in Mangalore. It is a shameful behavior of these three drunkards. they had no respect for the fellow passengers, the crews and the female air hostesses. Their pictures should be published in all newspapers and if possible on TV. I think they should introduce BREATH ANALIZER TEST (bat). ALL PASSENGERS SHOULD GO THROUGH IT. If they fail then they should not be allowed to board the flight. This will avoid all the hassles the passengers and the crew members go through when someone is drunk and goes out of control. I remember many years back when I was travelling from Dubai to Mangalore, one of the passengers was so drunk that after food was served he started picking up the dirty empty plates and passing it to the crew members even though he was told that they will take care of it and he should go back to his seat. We come across such crazy passengers sometimes.

Roshan Braganza, Udyavar / Bombay. Customer is Customer. But at what cost. At the cost of the Supplier. Not at all. In commercial terms, nothing is free and the passenger has the equal responsibility to behave in a human way and upholding the diginity of the crew.

Appreicate the AI crew memebers. Serving approx 180 passenger's are not easy and most of the Indian sub continent passenger's are not at all respectful to other passengers and crew memebers.

Now all the 3 passengers will enjoy the hospitality of Dubai police which is very much corrupt free.

It is better to stop strong drinks in the flight. Even those who are found drunk while checking in should not be allowed to fly. These drunkards are a big nuisance in the flight. Now smoking is stopped and in the same way all kind of bad habits should totally banned to make the passengers more comfortable in the flight. Congrats AI Express crew on your wise decision to hand over 3 idiots to Dubai Police..Now they can have QUBOOS and SULEMAANI in jail..

It is better to ban alcohol in plane. In-flight alcohol creates untoward incidents similar to this even disrupting the journey.

Would these rogues have guts to humiliate and misbehave with International Airlines cabin crew? For example on Saudia, Emirates, Gulf Air etc.? I doubt. Just because, it is an Indian Carrier and the staff is Indian, they think they can do whatever they want.

Wish these three immigrant workers get exemplary punishment in Dubai Jail, a lesson they would learn and also a message to other trouble makers.

Customer is a customer , no matter how they behave. Its the duty of crew to handle them properly , thats why they have been paid for !. Asking excess alcohol , is too much to bargain?. I can smell rat here , may be passengers where onto to themselves , enjoying , partying. but hurling abuses is wrong , they should be let off with warning.

AI you took a good decision of handing them over to Dubai Police and not diverting the flight and handing them over to the Indian police force who would have left them out to travel in the next flight.

Very shameful event. Passengers boarding from Mangalore behaving like this is unbelievable. Good that they are arrested at Dubai Airport. Wish they get severe punishment for this misconduct and indiscipline.

They should be punished vigorously because of their misbehaviour and should be deported to India back. Life time ban should be imposed on them for their rude behaviour inside the flight throught the journey

Publish their pictures in media.. Blacklist their passport number in online system so that they cannot fly anymore in flight and instead let them use some boats..
When someone make mistake all others should a lesson from that so that no one will repeat such things.
Teach them a strong lesson
