It was a Rave Party, Insists Manjula, Blames Media for 'Unnecessary Sympathy'

Bangalore, Aug 14 (DHNS): Karnataka State Women’s Commission president C Manjula on Monday vehemently defended her observation that the recent assault on girls at the “Morning Mist” Homestay in Mangalore was a result of their “drinking habits”.

Manjula was widely criticised after she found fault with the victims and their partying habits, instead of blaming it on the assaulters, in her report on the incident.

Speaking at a seminar organised by the State Temperance Board, Manjula once again emphasised on the role of alcohol and drugs in the Mangalore homestay attack.

Drinking culture

Brushing aside objections to her report as “immature,” Manjula said: “I have no qualms with the objections raised. A large section of society has begun to support the culture of drinking.”

Drawing attention to the beer bottles seized from the venue, Manjula said youngsters indulging in “immoral activities” are a more pressing issue than the attack on girls and needs to be addressed immediately. The commission president, however, maintained that she had condemned the incident.

“I suspect that the youngsters at the homestay had consumed drugs,” Manjula said, citing a senior politician’s observation that clothes worn by one of the boys suggested he consumed drugs, as the basis of her conclusion.

“These youngsters have got unnecessary sympathy from the media. We have to check the credentials of Loretta Rebello who had rented the place to the group. We also have to check the credentials of the Gurudutt Kamath, mother of one of the victims, who has tried to gain public sympathy by saying she had permitted her son to go for the party,” she said.

Manjula found support in State Women’s Commission Chairperson Pramila Nesargi. “If you see the larger picture, those who beat up the girls were probably not entirely at fault. If you see a woman trying to jump into the well, you will not have time to think whether she was clad or not. This was a similar case. Won’t you beat a child when she does a mistake? Necessity knows no law,” said Nesargi.

She also demanded that alcohol consumption at parties be banned. “If anyone wants to hold such parties, they have to take a licence.”

For both Manjula and Nesargi, proponents of puritan values, the presence of beer bottles on the premises was evidence enough to declare it a rave party, even though the Mangalore police said it was not.

MANJULA DOES NOT UNDERSTAND THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN A BIRTHDAY PARTY AND A RAVE PARTY. FOR HER ALL PARTIES ARE RAVE PARTIES. GOD ALONE KNOWS HOW SHE BECAME THE PRESIDENT OF WOMAN COMMSSION ? I ALSO DOUBT SHE IS A WOMAN OR HIJADA. MANJULA HAS GONE OUT OF HER SENSES AND IS BETTER WE DON'T ARGUE WITH HER AS IT IS USELESS. SHE DOE NOT KNOW WHAT SHE IS SAYING. ONCE SHE LOOSES POWER SHE WILL COME TO KNOW WHAT IS WHAT ? SHE WILL BE SLIPPERED ON STREETS OF MANGALORE BY LADIES AND NOT GENTS.

What a shameless lady Manjula is. No value for the position she is holding due to lack of knowledge to her job and public relation or education ets. I think current Mangalore mayor 8th std passed who does a better job than this so called bab Manjula. First learn to make a justifiable fair decision before give any response towards bais results in unjustifiable way. Mangalore people are well educated except current political status creates mess with around people. yOU, Reddy, Yeddy all are same family people who are fit to make right to wrong and wrong to right which is a dangerous for people in Mangalore. For god sake how did you qualify to get the position which you have no idea of head and tail of what you talking about. looking at beer bottles is not a final decision of yours. Why people attacks on others is a issue who has given them a right to do so when police has the power to complete this task. Pls we don't need India turns into Afghan OR pAKISTAN LIFE IN INDIA

It is an open book everyone knows the innocence of the girls in home stay when they were attacked, molested beaten, dragged by HJV. The Directorate of Public Grievances (DPG) in the Cabinet Secretariat of Government of India helps to obtain responses to unresolved grievances on matters relating to some Central Government Departments and Organisations. DPG can help you to obtain a response and resolution on these grievances from the department or organisation. If the issue is forwarded to National women council Smt. Mamta Sharma, Chairperson, NCW. We hope there will be justice for the victims

It’s been a trend to criticize whatever BD and VHP does. Our culture does not entertain PUB or Homestay parties. Also BD VHP is not a political party to get people together during Yatras by giving money. When things go wrong in a society there must be someone to correct it. That’s what BD and VHP have done till now and no one can stop them in doing this in future. Their intention to protect country from westernization is great but we feel sad for the way few people in the name of Sangatan behaved during homestay attack as they could have chosen much better way to protest against partying in Home-stay or a RAVE party. And the TRUTH is only in the heart of people who involved in the party whether it was RAVE or a Birthday party. Hope Sangatan people correct their mistake if they had done something wrong. And also for those people who know Indian culture and tradition can only understand what VHP and BD want to protect the nation from. It’s not necessary to learn from people who pose like so called SECULARISTS, about how to respect women and our country. We feel proud to live in this rich culture. Many people may not get what BD and VHP actually mean, due to lack of knowledge about the culture. In past one year there are many incidences in Mangalore where Hindu guys and gals are being killed or harassed. Also there are many other national issues in our country like Assam Violence or violence in Mumbai after holly prayers which took lives of more than 20 innocent Hindus. But we can’t find many awake readers showing more interest to criticize it instead they keep waiting or seek a chance to comment only on BD and VHP activities. We have seen the political involvement in Homestay attack and also few political parties try to get advantage of this. Let’s all be wise readers, citizens and not come into conclusion being one sided. Nobody can cheat LAW. Let’s wait for the judgment of court and decide who are wrong. Till then let’s support BD and VHP in continuing good work.

Manjula does have a point. I don't understand why people are buying the birthday party excuse. If they had watched the video the it was more than a simple b'day party. I don't see any victim here even though they were treated badly. They forgot the fact that marriage comes before sex, hopefully they learned a lesson.
However, nobody can take law into their own hands. If they do they need to be punished too.
After watching the VIDEO I thought Police was the biggest disappointment there. They didn't know how to handle these type of situations. They appear to lack basic training and ill equipped. These type of incidents bounds to recur due to in equalities in society. Well trained police force is a absolute necessity to maintain law and order. Instead making silly arguments and blaming each other educated citizens of Mangalore must realize this point.

Manjula acting like a deaf and blind person. Rave party took place at Malpe with the blessing of BJP government and not at Home mist, Padil. She didn't even utter a single word against the Malpe rave party. I'm sure she might have been one of the beneficiary of that rave party.

Lingappa A, Mlore/ Dxb. My straight forward question to you, who gave the authority to beat these girls who are celerbating their birthday.
Who are u tell them, where to celebrte. When police have given clean chit saying there was no illegal activities have taken place, then why these so called word like holistic approach. Either stick to one - u condemn the attack by the goondss on these girls. IT is nobody's biz to interfere and tresspass anybody's property. Any body who comments saying I comdemn the attack and use" but, if," means they are supporting the goondas. This is straight forward.

Morning Mist is within city limits. If Manjula is so concerned about alchohol consumption is bad, then recommend to completely ban achohol in the State and c the politicans outrageous reaction, forget the citizen reaction. I am sure, nobody in Karnataka has the guts to recoomend the ban of alchohol.

One has to decide what is good or bad for oneself as we are free citizen in a democratic Country.

Lingappa A, Mlore/ Dxb
Wednesday, August 15, 2012

There should be a holistic approach to the situation. At the outset, the attack on girls is outrageous and has to be condemned and the guilty needs to be punished as per law. There are no two ways about it.
On the other hand, the victims are no saints either. Though it’s nobody’s business there is absolutely no reason to hire a remote illegal home stay for two continuous days for a birthday party, there were activities too beyond drinking beer if there is an overnight stay.

The premises of course is very notorious, I know this place. It’s far from the main road, for sure, it’s not a pilgrimage centre, and several couples would frequent this place to spend a short time. As the vehicle windows had tints no one would identify or notice. Ironically the activities too cannot be proved. Off late due to revision of the tint rules on vehicles, things have become a bit clear.
So a special investigation team has to appointed and has to get to the bottom of the issue considering the above points and only then we could judge,
It futile to vent our frustration in this forum, by political party and religion bashing,

It is truly sad that we have such people in charge of the Commission.
The people involved in the party were all adults. Let them do whatever they choose to without bothering others and not breaking the law.

Are there any moral guidelines in India's Constitution?
Who are these to enforce morality on others?

Where will this end? This is akin to Taliban of Afghanistan, in my opinion.

Truly sad and pathetic. I hope people rise up and get rid of such elected officials. I don't think this is progress.

Dear Mr. Mohandas Kapikad, Mangaluru,
Answer the following if you have the truth:
1) Which Indian Penal Code says drinking alcohol/beer is wrong or crime for adults tell me?
(Intoxicating himself after drinking and intimidating/beating the public is wrong as per IPC. Exactly the HJV attackers accomplished this grave blunder, backfired them).
2) If the media was not there the High Court Judge would have not traced Goondas and asked report from Mangalore Police Commissioner.
3) Media is highlighting both the good as well as bad done by the humans.
4) Who is stealing another persons freedom tell me and why if we have freedom.
5) Why these HJV goons stole the chain, wallet, jacket and money?
6) Who appointed them as moral police. Show me where is their legal appointment letter from governmental authorities.
7) Tell me why the HJV goondas are behind the bars now why why why? Do you mean the Police have done the mistake?!
8) Why the police have arrested HJV Goondas only for a fancy show?

I quote from the media news of this article: “If you see the larger picture, those who beat up the girls were probably not entirely at fault. If you see a woman trying to jump into the well, you will not have time to think whether she was clad or not. This was a similar case. Won’t you beat a child when she does a mistake? Necessity knows no law,” said Nesargi. Unquote.

Yes. When a person jumps into the well and if anybody see then may be possible or may not be possible to trace whether she is a women or a man. If the person jumps within in a moment/kshanadhalli then it may not be traceable to identify male or female.
Whereas here these attackers are well-known of the attacked boys and girls, a party is going on with boys and girls asumingannya jaathiyaaru/non-Hindu community which has back fired them after words and this incident hadn’t happened in a moment/kshanadhalli. Hence they attackers are wellknown of the iddentity of the attacked. The Police were asking the name of the boys two, two times why? Are they also brainwashed by these HJV goons.

Yes. Parents beat their children not the adults. All those who have attended home-stay party were Adults and parents have allowed them which is of no error except students came on the request birthday party boys friends friends.

Even if the parents beat their sons and daughters children or adults it is not a mistake. Now in the 21st century that too/beating of children is also forbidden by law. If a person other than the parents beat other parents children and adults it is considered as mistake/fault/law is binding to them.

I do not understand which nuisance fellows appointed all these women commissions chairpersons Pramila nesargi & C. Manjula supporting outlaws who do not use their own mind and even allow their own mind to rot.

Eventually when her children read all this (provided her children are educated) and understand the facts, she will be left with only her political party with no family..Does she need this?

I feel so frustrated of being helpless and not being able to do anything about it. It we go on just verbally attacking these people, nothing is achieved. What we need is a selfless, honest leader who could come forward and guide us for a non violent mass movement. Is there a JP, Mahatma, S. Bose among us? We talk about this issue for some time, then forget it. History will be repeated again and again. Is there someone among us who can lead us and get us out of the mess that we are in? Every issue is politically manipulated. People whom we call leaders want a pound of flesh in every disaster that takes place. God knows where we are heading. Being a lawyer, you must understand that there is law which we all have to respect. even though there was a rave party, there is a law which specifies the relevant action for it. There is no mother child relationship between the attackers and the victims. No one has right to hit another person as per Indian Laws, until unless there is self defense involved. It is total failure of Karnataka Government and it shows what kind of ruling we have in the state!

The matter is not whether it was a rave or spiritual party!!!

The question is, whoever attacked these guys, what rights they had to be judgemental and bash them up?

It is saddening to hear in NCW's report that ....citing a senior politician’s observation that clothes worn by one of the boys suggested he consumed drugs, as the basis of her conclusion.

How can you come to a conclusion by the clothes indivdual wear decides whether drugs taken or not without a proper medical test.

Not sure which age we are living in.... and time after time we still elect such leaders to rule over us.

Our revenue from taxing liquor was Rs. 9,827.89 crore in 2011-12 and which is nearly 25-28% of Karnataka`s revenue. You lady are enjoying and getting the income from such revenue and you are pin pointing on Drinking culture??? You don’t deserve the post which you hold, you should be thrown out. Just being a puppet in the hands of others. Please think twice before you speak.

What logic you are using to come to the conclusion "clothes worn by one of the boys suggested he consumed drugs". I assume you might have seen your husband or your boy friend with such cloths while consuming drugs. Lady be careful before commenting. You are representing not a party. You are representing the people. Don’t forget that.
You should be slapped and need to put a garland of slippers for such remarks. Mind before you enter into Mangalore next time.

I'm not much into politics but having a religious/communal based party ruling, the antics will always be to gain votes by inciting unrest. Prior to the BJP taking power, I can't remember any of this happening from the attacks on pubs, churches, home stays.
Secondly, we claim to have the worlds largest democracy. Really? I don't think it's anyone's issue if these kids partied and did whatever. They can do whatever they want.
I think it's time the youth of Mlore hit back and thump these guys. It's like a bully at school they keep coming back till hit in the mouth and then they back away. Give these guys a beating they will remember. They will think twice about it the next time. Set a precedent instead of these thugs trying to set up one

What an example by Nesargi!! Is she her child. These are over 18 adults. They have enough brains to understand whether what they are doing is right or wrong. It's not any dal's rights to decide for them. Tomorrow someone feels that any person should not go to a temple. And they drag you out and beat you just because they think it's wrong according to them. Would it be considered right?? When have these politicians started to decide whether drinking is bad for teenagers or not. They should handle the general public concerns rather than decide what teens should do and not do.

I find it quite funny when they say elders can beat ("PHYSICALLY ABUSE") a child when they do something wrong. Wasn't there a huge cry recently to stop corporal punishment in schools? The irony amuses me, the educated guru's who teach the kids cant touch them (I am in no way justifying corporal punishment in schools), but these uneducated goons can!

There is no molestation of girls. It is a wrong propaganda by the media and vested interests.

We can not say the attack is wrong, because the authorities are not taking action because of various reasons.

If such activities happen in your neighbourhood and authorities does not take action what will you do?

You have to do something else to stop such nonsense.

There are so many serious and genuine issues concerning women and children. Why the readers here does not condemn them with the same vigour.

Manjula clearly exposed here, its a loss for BJP, All should curse her and i am sure very soon we are going to here this because those girls and their parents tears will teach Manjula and Pramila a lesson for life. Here the issue is what the goons did is right or wrong because it is not in our constitution. What boys and girls is right or wrong is no ones concern. If they did anything wrong then there is law to punish.

This Manjula aunty has no moral right to sit in the responsible chair. There is already rift between Manjula aunty and Shobakka on Yeddy sending her to inquiry. Yeddy the lucky fellow. But Manjula will get from Shobakka. Pramila Nesarafi lodge episode is public secret, she better keep quite.

Lo kar lo baat,,,
License for partying???
Let me guess what would happen here. Half the budget of the party would be gone "treating" the authorities who will issue this license. By the time it is issued, the scheduled date of the party would be passed.
So Pramila, please keep your stupid suggestions to yourself. Dont try to impose new laws. Dont support the ones who breach laws.

Dear Manjula Madam, was it a Rave Party ? If so, where were these goondas during rave party in Malpe organized by BJP members ? Where were these cultureless goondas when their 'gurus' were watching blue movies in Vidhana Soudha ? If drinking Beer is not permitted during party, why the hell you think the wine shops and beer bars open throught the nook and corner of our city ?

If you and Pramila thinks the stinking goondas did the right thing by beating, molesting and trying to rape innocent girls, why the hell do you think we need police dept. ? Yes, the person who has no children, they won't understand the terror those innocent minds are going through. You have proved that people like you could stoop to any low for money and fame. Thank God you do not have children.

C K DAYANANDA, MANGALURU here the question is not about girls and boys having fun or indulging in unwanted activities. The question every one are asking is who are these people who can just get into any place and harm and molester the girls and manhandle them. Are they law binding agencies nominated by local police? Who have given them that right?

John D'Souza, Udupi
Tuesday, August 14, 2012

Madam, do you know what you have done? You have done great injustice to that boys & girls and you are blindly justifying your action. Ask yourself, you are right or wrong. May be, some day in future, if you come face to face to that children they may call you a betrayer for being devilish to them.

Roshan Braganza, Udyavar / Bombay

The very thought of 'feminists' defeated by 'politics' and women itself. Nobody was talking boy innocent boys , and very partial towards them. Infact ' drunken' girls got unto limelights and had the best coverage. Illtreating of women , abuse bla bla . Now what about the drug , alcohol abuse and narcotics. Atleast Manjula highlighted other side of story . Job well done.

Dear Dr S KAMATH, First of all congrats for saving someones life if you done that!credit to you !
But this forum is not designed to tell us how great you are and your medical knowledge.Thats your job and you get paid for it not that you are doing it for free. Ther is something called patient confidentiality which you need to follow and not supposed to show off on the internet. No wonder you come up with communal comments all the time and support violence. I am not saying that taking drugs is right, but there is a civilized way of sorting the problem.Violence is not the answer, even parents hitting their own child is not the solution. It will only make things worse.
Please as a educated person you should be a role model and not fuel the rowdies with pea size brain and encourage them. Grow up man!

She is in this position to help out ladies...She is protecting the goons.
tomorrow she will try to bargain and sell the victims to any Bajrangi heads also....Be careful she should be thrown out of this position.
Majula, Children should be beaten by their parents for their mistakes. Not adults, and you dont molest your kids at home do you..Is this how you punish your own kids for their mistakes....so it means these goons are always sitting at your home molesting your girls? wow...nice can i join your party?
Better take care of your sons from RSS & Bajrangeez, not to teach the children of this country.
We are more educated than you how to bring up and care our kids. Not in your way OK.
Manjula the next time you touch any kids of Mangalore including you will be beaten up by public............BEWARE....
If you are really strong, bring your goons face to face and then see the spirit of the youths in Mangalore tearing them to pieces..not hiding and attacking like rats........
